Optimal speaker volume when using auxiliary jack

Can anyone recommend optimal volume levels on the Surface 2 when using an external speaker connected thought the auxiliary jack? For example, I connected my Surface 2 to Bose sound dock using a monster cable connected through headphone auxiliary jack. On the Xbox Music app, the volume is at 80. The main Surface volume is 20. The sound is ok, but I was wondering if anyone has experimented and found best level combinations.

When you put an Ipod in the Bose sound dock, the level is automatically optimal.

Good question. I typicaly use max app volume and lower system volume. I was planning to use a blue tooth speaker on mines.

I'll try that - thanks. I guess I could put in the iPod and play a song and then compare the volume when connected the Surface2.
