You are not alone. My Icon does not take good pics, especially close-up. I sent it back to Nokia and they replaced it, but it is still not functioning like everyone else. I wonder if it is a software update that is causing problem. I have goggled, but cannot find anyone else with the problem. So frustrating because I cannot even take a pick of a receipt because it can't focus.

Can you post some pictures so that we can take a look and try to help? If it's the same result with two phones, it's a pretty good chance that it's user error.

How close are you putting the camera to the subject? If it is less than 3in then you are going to have problems with focus. This photo was taken at 3in from the pen fully zoomed in.

Every camera has a minimum focusing distance. Lighting also has a lot to do with focus. If there isn't enough light, the camera's autofocus can't "lock on," which means you need to switch to manual focus.

And like Indistinguishable said, upload some shots so we can see what's going on.

And the fried pickles my daughter and I made the other night.

Edit: They still haven't fixed the orientation bug. This was actually shot in portrait not landscape. The problem is that I don't get this problem all the time. When I posted it to Instagram, the orientation was correct. But when I upload via a web browser then it shows up... Interesting...

Uh... Recipe please...

Sure! It's really simple.

Louisiana Fish Fry Company's Chicken Fry batter mix - Chicken Fry - Batters and Coatings - Products
All purpose flour
Kosher salt
Panko bread crumbs
Clausen Dill Pickles

In one bowl (wet mix): Mix the batter according to the instructions (I added some AP flour to cut it a little) into a batter (pancake consistency).
In another bowel (dry mix): Mix some more of the chicken fry mix with kosher salt, AP flour, and bread crumbs (pretty much to your taste).
Slice the pickles to about approx. 1/8in thick slices.

Heat up a 10 in skillet with enough vegetable oil in it to fill it up to about a 1/4 in deep.

Dip the pickles in the batter coating thoroughly, then dredge in the dry mix. Once the oil is hot enough (around 350F or so), fry the coated pickles in the oil, flipping once until both sides are GBD (golden brown and delicious). Let drain on plate with a paper towel and once cool enough to eat. Enjoy.

Keep in mind the batter mix I used is kind of spicy.

Enjoy!

Took this shot while in the United Kingdom the other day; I'm no expert, but I was impressed. Also, I've read reviews that claim that the 928 has a better camera but I've been much more impressed with the Icon than the 928 in terms of photo quality (aside from low light).

Nice. The 928's camera is not better than the Icon's, the 928 does have a better flash though. The low light quality of the Icon is improved too with Denim and Lumia Camera 5, and Lumia Camera Beta has caught up and passed LC5.
