re: Pictures & Videos Taken With My Lumia 1520

This photo was taken on auto setting using the physical camera button with no adjustments except this crop is approximately 40% of the original photo. With the 1520's 20-megapixel camera the details are still there. I've noticed the photos taken with the 1520 are more consistently in focus and have better color balance than with my 920. The Lumia phones are known for low light photo but I think they do well in sunlight too. I am also glad for the physical camera button because with a phone this large I find it easier to hold the phone still using two hands.

My first couple of pics taken with the 1520. The flower pic was taken with the plastic over the lens, as I didn't have a case yet. The second is of my cat Nova moving in my direction.

Re: Amazing image stabilisation in this think

I'm blown away how good OIS is in this camera. Here is two sample shots with ISO 100 and 200. Other is 1,7s shot and other is 0,7s shot. Both 100% hand held, only slight lean with my left hand to window. You can pull these shots every time if you know how.

Here's the secret how you can get images this sharp on slow shutter speeds hand held. When you tap to focus don't take shot right away after camera is focused. Let the OIS settle down few seconds. You can see how image stabilises near stand still if you wait few seconds. Then take shot and it comes out perfectly.

I can take images like i posted every freaking time now that i discovered this. Dunno if it was this way on 920 but 1520 really rocks.

1 more hand held, 100 ISO, 0,51s exposure. Simply wow i say

I think 200 ISO for low light shots would be ideal. Noise isn't problem and would give bit more playfield for sharper shots.

Nice job! I bet software could clean up the ever so slight shake from the longer exposure. But that isn't even needed until you're looking at a 100% crop.

Could you upload more low light photos? I'm thinking that 925 is way better in low light with or without flash. Better camera in 925 or just software? Ha! That is a question!

I think 1520 can do better since OIS is far superior to 925. You can take low ISO long exposure shots with 1520 where 925 OIS can't handle shakiness from hands beyond 1/6 very well. In my experiments with 920 i could do blur free photos only up to 1/10 with some 90% success rate. With 1520 it's 1/2s and whole 1s shots are possible with steady hands.

Of course 2.0f aperture in 925 makes thinks up and you don't need to shoot so slow shutter speeds with it compared to 1520 to get same exposure, but it still isn't enough against superior OIS in 1520. Also processing is better in 1520 where low light images are cleaner of noise which makes low light shots look much better specially when using ISO values above 800.

If weather is good to nite i can go to take some more shots. Below is two shots that i took earlier that i haven't posted here.

https://mavtgw.dm2304.livefilestore...qrzz6JgsU/WP_20131209_01_23_29_Pro.jpg?psid=1 0.88s ISO-100
https://mavtgw.dm1.livefilestore.co...6sz4YgWg4/WP_20131209_01_34_14_Pro.jpg?psid=1 1/2s ISO-100

This is by the way ISO-2500 shot. Could you believe it https://mavtgw.dm1.livefilestore.co...FYq548dco/WP_20131224_16_20_43_Pro.jpg?psid=1

With software update to 1520 it could do even better since there is way too much contrast in processing algorithms in 1520 software and it could produce brighter images with same shutter speed if toned down a bit. Now details are lost in shadowed areas too much. If you compare RAW images to jpegs of 1520 there is details visible in shadowed areas in RAW but in jpegs those details are lost due excessive contrast applied in to them.

I just wanna know wat good comes from having a xenon flash? Does it make a difference in the pics taken in 1520 with just the dual led?

Here is some highlights from my low light photo session  Not much interesting to shoot here in city of Lahti, but here is few shots that shows what kinda quality 1520 can take. All hand held except photo where is building construction site. That one i took phone resting against fence. Links below image takes you to full size photo :winktongue: I'm becoming quite good when taking low light photos now that i start understanding which settings give best results.

Most of time camera wanted to make white balance too cold and had to quite often adjust it manually. OIS performed really well as you can see and most of times i had to discard photo because white balance was off, not because it was blurry.

You can find rest of photos i took this time from this folder https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=a7e6ec70cbc020d7#cid=A7E6EC70CBC020D7&id=A7E6EC70CBC020D7!2015
Weather was very foggy and result could be far better if those would have been taken on bright conditions.

Really nice work. It's nice to see someone take time and put some effort into mastering the equipment in low light settings. I used to do club, band and general nighttime photography with my canon SLR. To get it right I just about always went full manual.

re: Pictures & Videos Taken With My Lumia 1520

Went for a night out in town, perfect opportunity to take some lowlight shots.

11586536666_b8321bb8a2_b.jpg
First 2 taken with the Pro Cam app on auto settings and handheld. As usual it pushed the ISO up to allow for a faster shutter (800-1000). Images turned out a little grainy when zoomed in, but still decent considering. OIS and BSI probably helped.

11586539216_05290a2eea_b.jpg

The above 4 I try to kept within ISO 100-200, slower shutter speed, and depending on something to lean on or a surface I can rest the phone on to keep it as stable as I can.

Man these are some killer low light photos....

EDIT: Question for you all: are you touching these up in any way or just posting them straight off the click?

All of the stuff I've posted is unedited.
