Sms length problem

Hello, I have a problem with my Nokia Lumia 520 device. When I'm writing sms text, are only 70 characters long. After 70 characters is splitting in two messages and so on. On the other hand if you start to type lets-say 123456789 and repeat you fill up 170 chars lenght! What the hell is going on? I don't understand. I tried in settings played with everything, nothing. Anybody any idea why is happening and what can be done? I mean I wish to send 170 characters long sms's and not 70!

if you include in-built smiley then its more than 1 characters

no in fact I'm using just regular fonts, from the English alphabet! But when I try typing something with a meaning, at a certain point the phone shows me the maximum numbers of characters and is 70, if i type randomly without any meaning, character after character let's say: "dffadfakdfasfasfasfafasdfa" is going up to 170. This is becoming annoying.

Go to network+ in settings, there sms character set to REDUCED, may be it solve your problem.
