so MS finally talks and says nothing.

Are you referencing Paul Thurrott's rants about the NoDo update? I listen to that last week. You would gravitate to that. :) Paul is disgruntled because Microsoft want give him a list of everything thats in the NoDo update. He has been pretty negative toward Microsoft since the lauch because he can't get inside information. His rants made it pretty clear that he feels this way. Now that I think of it, he sounds alot like mgarcia. He makes all these negative claims about WP7 and then talks about that he really loves it. Its obvious he is upset because Microsoft has put him on the same playing field as other users when it comes to when information is released. He whinned about how they give him informantion on other products but not WP7. He went as far as saying that when comes to pre-released information on other Microsoft products that they make him the man, but not so for WP7. Its amazing how he is so negative toward them in this episode, but back before the release of WP7, he gave M$ and WP7 nothing but praises. His praises were based on a Samsung Focus they gave him before the official release. Everyone should listen, and you will see where his negative attitude toward WP7 and M$ comes from.

Thurrott has long been deleted from my fave lists. (And the WP7 News app recently)

I can't be arsed with his pointless rants any longer. He seems to think he is someone special who should be told everything. I think not.

Now where's my NoDo update, Rant Rant Rant!

There I feel better now.

I guess some of us that are not really excited to have a Windows Phone device that doesn't work and does freeze 5 times a day are just getting frustrated by all the positivity.

Unless noted otherwise, I have seen all of the following bugs occur on my Focus, my girlfriend's Quantum, and a coworker's HD7.

<List Cut>

I have seen the people hub bug, and of course the marketplace issue, but I've had the phone since the UK launch and seen none of the other things you've mentioned. Sounds like you have a faulty handset to me.

Oh and the Wifi turns off to save battery! If any mobile device left Wifi on permanently the battery life of the phone would be shocking

I don't think this is true. Wifi generally uses less power than 3G. When wifi is off, 3G data is on. My Palm Pre had the option to turn off wifi when the device screen off, or to keep it wifi alive. I had much better battery life while connected to wifi and while keeping it alive when the screen was off. That being said, it probably does hurt battery life slightly when you're phone is searching for wifi every so often when you are not in a wifi area in addition to keeping 3G alive (for example while you are driving).

The conclusion I reached though for my normal use (work, home, a few hours on the road, and out at restaurants or bars a few times a week) keeping the wifi on at all times was the optimal balance of batter life and convenience. Having the wifi turn off when the screen was off caused some slowness when I would pull out the phone and begin using data right away while in a wifi area.

So are you saying that if you connected to Last.fm or Zune and were streaming music over Wifi, and you locked the screen it would dump the current connection and re-connect to 3G?

Yeah, I'm reiterating some of Paul points actually.....but stuff that you and I were arguing for beforehand.

Of course, I don't bring up Paul anymore...because........you get a bunch of replies which you see above me.

You think he would have returned it by now. If he has the phone warranty, then he can get a new device. Even better, he can exchange it for a new Android. But he had better get a mobile generator to keep it charged.

Wait, some don't even own the phone and yet writing complaints. WOW.

I have been harsh about Microsoft's ability to deploy updates in a timely manner.

Big whoop.

Apple's released 5 updates since Windows Phone launched.

How often has Microsoft rolling over and taking it worked out for them lately? Microsoft has done nothing but follow in the last 5 years (which the exception of some key Xbox features) and one could have thought, that WP7 showed promise of a more competitive Microsoft....

They very well could push this update, deal out some awesome features at MIX, get some new hardware out this fall, get Mango out, and bam.....Grand Slam.

Pete, I don't think that the Wifi shuts off when the screen locks. If it did, it wouldn't sync with your Zune desktop while charging. I sync over wifi everynight. So if wifi shut off, then wifi sync with zune while charging would not be possible.

They have already anounced new awesome features that are coming later this year. This was done at MWC 2011. Also, Microsoft has stated that Mango is still on track for a fall delivery. Again, Microsoft doesn't make phone hardware.

Yeah I've just been looking at this and I'm going to clarify what I said.
If you were constantly using data then yes having Wifi on all the time compared to a constant connection to 3G would be more battery efficient, but if you don't need to use data then turning of or sending the Wifi to a sleep state will save battery life compared to having it constantly connected.

WP7 Wifi seems to enter a sleep state when you turn off the screen only if it's not being used. That means that if you have data that actively needs to be transmitted/received it uses the Wifi, and when it needs to poll for e-mails (I have mine set half hourly) the Wifi seems to be re-enabled for that.

Pete, I don't think that the Wifi shuts off when the screen locks. If it did, it wouldn't sync with your Zune desktop while charging. I sync over wifi everynight. So if wifi shut off, then wifi sync with zune while charging would not be possible.

With regards to the syncing, I have noticed that the phone doesn't seem to constantly sync whilst plugged in, instead it seems to have periods when it tries to connect to your PC for a sync and then periods where it goes back into sleep mode.

When tethered to a power source (PC or AC charger) WiFi will remain on but when "off charge" WiFi will go the sleep about 30 seconds after screen off or data inactivity (like when downloading a large file with screen off). Does not matter if 3G is on or off. So without 3G or charging, no updates or push while your screen is off. Tested this every which way.

Your Device Is *****d!!

1. When I press...
20. Finally, Settings...

Seriously, just get a new device. You have got to be the unluckiest person in that regard!

Plus, more than a few of your "bugs" are by design. Obviously lack of customizable ringtones should have been one of the first improvements on MS's list, but if they had it as a feature to begin with, it may have induced other bugs.

You won't hear me complain much. I'm just glad I don't have to choose the KIN to get a MS phone!

Just swap out your device man!!

If you b****** to your carrier as much as you do here I'm sure they would find a way to get you a new one!

I'm sorry for so much confusion. I'll be sure in the future to not use the word "bug" and replace it with "numerous software glitches, design flaws, blatant oversights, poor application management, a disregard for user experience, and an unfinished operating product in nearly every way". Again, my apologies.

@burnethanol I've got a new device for other reasons, but unfortunately, new hardware does not remedy numerous software glitches, design flaws, blatant oversights, poor application management, a disregard for user experience, and an unfinished operating product in nearly every way.

Why do you continue to use a product that you despise and feel is a failure. Craiglist it for sale or trade. It's not hard. Sheesh.

Hate to throw more fuel into the fire, but I had to point out that "glitches" is just a synonym for "bug" in this context.

Also, who are you to decide it's unfinished? I think Microsoft decided v1 was finished when they released it. I can draw a line on a piece of paper and decide that my work of art is finished, yet someone else might see it as unfinished. I am the one to make that call though, no one else. Same with design flaw. What if everything is perfectly "as designed" and Microsoft intended the exact behavior that everyone sees? Then it's not a design flaw, but rather that you don't agree with their chosen design.

Blatant oversights and disregard for user experience are again just your opinions. You know what they say: opinions are like as*holes, everyone's got one and they're all full of sh*t.

I understand what mgarcia is trying to do, continue insulting Microsoft in hopes of them fixing things quicker. The unfortunate part for him is that Microsoft is a huge company that honestly doesn't give a rats *** about ONE person, and yeah even if they pretended to, he's ranting in the wrong place. So mgarcia, you either need to find the right place to rant, or just get rid of the phone altogether cuz I have a feeling that even Microsoft would be telling you to **** off with that amount of ranting.

I was thinking the other day that Microsoft did a great job at making a version 1 product. The OS is stable, things are smooth and the features are there. Compare that with my former BlackBerry which was on version 5 of their OS, where daily battery pulls were the norm.
