So, who's gonna get a Surface Pro 3?

I want to get one, but it must be a impulse purchase. The one I would get being an i7 256gb...isn't coming out until August 31st. So I would preorder and then I would then cancel it a little while later because I would come to my senses on spending $1549 on a tablet that I don't really need.

I would love to get one, but I think it is too expensive considering the devices I already have.

Right now I have a Notebook (i7 2nd or 3rd gen, 8GB Ram, Intel HD 4000/nvidia GT 650M, 500GB HDD, about 1.5 years old now) and a Surface RT.
I bought the Surface RT recently (second hand on ebay), not sure whether I love it or hate it :p

Combining my two devices into one, sounds very comfortable!
And not beeing much of a PC gamer, the Surface Pro 3 would probably do even better than my current Notebook, thanks to the SSD... at least for everyday tasks like file management, web-browsing and office.

In many ways, the Surface Pro 3 sounds like the perfect device for my personal usage... but in my country preorders for the i7/512GB variant are about ~2450.- $ or ~1950.- $ for the 256GB version.
To replace my Notebook I would have to add a 160.- $ Type Cover too and maybe get a cheap USB hub to connect more than one device at a time.

Definitly not worth it for me, my current Notebook is just as powerfull.
A slimmed down, touch enabled version of the same thing I already have is not worth ~2500.- $.

I think I skipp a few generations and when my Notebook needs to be replaced in the future, I reconsider buying a Surface Pro (5/6 or whatever generation they will be at). :)
Maybe if there will ever be a damatic price drop and/or a good second hand offer, I might get a i3/i5 variant of the SP3, simply replace my Surface RT... but other than that I don't see myself buying one.

I'm thinking in buying the i3 configuration, mainly because I'm on a budget. I don't use editing programs, and for gaming I have my desktop, so, do you think it could be a good deal for me?

Pre-ordered the 256GB i5 with a cyan Type Cover not longer after the announcement. Kind of wanted to spring for the 256GB i7, but the i5 already costs a substantial amount and I'm not sure I have the patience to wait till August 31st. I might give it a trial run at the MS Store next week, but I doubt there's anything that'll make me cancel my pre-order - I was pretty sold on the concept of the Pro 2 before this landed, and is better in most ways.

Definitely getting the i5 128GB version to replace my Surface Pro 2 with the same specs. I'll also be grabbing a Type Cover and the dock. I'll wait until the next major redesign to go all in on the high end model.

I still feel that the keyboard cover should be along with the surface & Microsoft is projecting it in wrong way ,its a laptop that can work as your tablet as well and not a tablet that can work as a laptop.
