The problem with the Xbox Ones strategy.

Here is the problem with Microsofts strategy. The TV features are great, but nothing stops Apple or Android from releasing the same exact features in an updated Apple TV or Google TV. Heck it might even include a game controller for app store games. If both price it for a couple hundred lower than the Xbox one then the people who want the TV functionality will just buy those systems instead.

The only real advantage is the Kinect sensor which most people aren't enamored with. Google and apples voice recognition is every bit as good as microsofts, probably better. Both also have existing customers locked into their ecosystems, which far outnumber Microsofts.

If an updated Apple TV is $300 and Google TV $200 then I don't see how a $500 Xbox One can compete. Xbox would be targeting a very narrow demographic right now that would find a purchase worthy.

I think you're missing the point of the Xbox One. If someone wants a TV solution and gaming, they can either Pay $200-300 for an Apple/Google TV, $400 for a PS4, and $60 for the PS Eye (or whatever it's called). OR they could just pay the $500 for an Xbox One and call it a day.

Ya, from my understanding, if the box supports the controller pass through HDMI cable type, that it would essentially act just like using your remote to control the box.

People keep forgetting there are TWO ways the Xbox can control things. HDMI passthrough will not emulate controlling the box with a remote. The HDMI passthough experience will be far superior.

However, people keep forgetting the IR blaster. EVERY CABLE BOX supports IR.... however each cable box interprets commands differently. So IR support for different cable boxes can be easily added through software updates.

The problem is 2 things:

* the 24-hour check-in or your console is bricked. You have to be able to play single-player games by inserting the disc.
* the Kinect not having a hard-off switch. They can talk about it having a software switch, but that's not good enough.

That's very good enough. Your smartphone camera and microphone doesn't have a physical switch. If you are complaining about one, you NEED to feel the same way about the other. If you don't fell the same towards your cell phone, you are completely biased.

Yeah kinda like being on parole. Got to check in with big bad MS or they stop your stuff from working for days and theres no way once that Kinect is plugged into the wall your ever getting the plug out - its got one of those anti tamper electric shock headbursting gizmos on. :winktongue:

The console isn't bricked. You just won't be able to play games.

There are a lot of other things that the console does.

It will do all of that if you live in North America. No confirmation what it will do in other countries.
At present its PS4 for me, until MS release more info on what XB1 will do in the UK (rumours that Sky will be the TV provider)

Most likely yes they will probably bundle SKY TV with xbox 1.. most likely Sky want a tie-in for Sky customers and will just offer freeview for non sky customers but will be available for gold live members. However could be wrong and hopefully would be available for silver members.
