Type Cover 2 problem

Here's the problem: when I attach the Type Cover 2 to my Surface2, the keyboard is recognized by the Surface2, but still does not work; neither keys nor trackpad.

If the TypeCover2 is attached to my Surface2 when I turn the Surface, the backlighting will come on for a few seconds, but then goes off.

Does this sound like a problem with the Surface2 or the TypeCover2? I've download all updates. Both devices are new. On the positive side, I have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse that work great with the Surface2.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
 
Do you see any issues in Device Manager (search from Start Screen or right-click Start button on desktop) when the keyboard is connected? It's possible the driver didn't load properly. In which case, you can right-click > uninstall > scan for hardware changes and hopefully the drive loads correctly.

Also: I know you said it is new but check the connections on the Surface and the Type Cover to ensure they are clean and free of any debris.
 
Thanks for the reply and advice. After trying everything, I ended up returning the Type Cover 2. Hopefully, the replacement will work better. Even so, the BT keyboard I have (Microsoft 6000) works great, as does the BT mouse. I love the Surface2! It's exactly what I needed in a tablet.
