Using multiple phones?

I have two phones I'm considering putting to regular use; one is a microSIM, the other a nanoSIM - so if I want to switch from using one as a daily driver to the other, it complicates things as I cannot simply switch the SIM.

Do you have to phone into your provider and request your number be switched to the correct SIM every time? Or can you request your number be 'active' on either SIM (as in, whichever connects to the network first makes use of your number, the other stays offline until the 1st is powered down)?

How do you guys approach this scenario?

I use an adapter for the nano SIM cards so I can put that card back in my micro SIM phones.

Exactly what @Guytronic said. I do that all the time when I want to give my 640 a whirl as a phone. I'm pretty sure that you can go to Cricket and ask them for a 3 in 1 SIM.

Whatever you do, do not cut your SIM! People have done it but once you do that, there's no going back.

Of all of the times I have done this over the past few months, this has never happened to me.

I believe all of the newer SIM kits from carriers are actually all 3 sizes these days.
The T-Mobile kits are this way.
You just punch out the appropriate size.


Something else that helps to keep the SIM from jamming is to place 3M Scotch brand tape on the non-contact side of the SIM in the adapter.
My L925 used to jam with a nano+adapter in there and doing this solved that.

I used a SIM punch to cut my microSIM down to nano.

Although I ended up getting an actual nano SIM eventually and got an adapter set.

One issue I've had with doing this is that nano SIMs are thinner than micro SIMs. A cut micro SIM can be very tight in a nano SIM slot. Some recommend sanding down the SIM card to make it thinner.

Look for an adapter that has a plastic sheet with adhesive over the top of the well. Holds the card secure and avoids jamming.

How much space was saved in the mobile device construction by moving from micro to nano SIM? Just a thought

Thanks to apple, it's a pain to insert, remove and keep nano card now. Actually sim card can be eliminated.

My first phone Nortel, the sim card was credit card size.
