WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

The real reason why I liked the old days was the hardware advances meant something for enthusiasts. I remember when AD2P was a huge deal. When a 1GHZ processor in a phone was a big deal. When 4.3" screens were massive. When internal storage crept over 1GB. It was really exciting to see where things were going and eing on the bleeding edge.

Now... It's a straight up business with it being a popularity contest.
Ah yes, the days of Hard SPL, S-off and Doctors for webOS. Somewhere in my external drive there are some Spiattie ROMs for iPaqs, some Energy ROMs for Touch Pros and HD2s and a few Cyanogens for the HTC Dream.

Ah, memory lane, eh?

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

The good thing with old B&H is that I was able to live demo the XZ2 and XZ3. That means I'll the X 1 (not to be confused with the X1, one of my favorite phones ever. Shout out to the X panels in the days of HTC Manila and SPB Mobile shell - Mr. Clue knows what I'm talking about here) in person.

Truth be told, I really liked the XZ2. It just lacked the 3.5mm, but it made sense to me. I love the in hand feel of the XZ3, even though I'm not as excited as I was with the XZ2 (it's a more refined XZ2 but I needed a little bit more to want to go out and buy it) . Would I own a XZ3? Yes (at the right price - forest green, red as the colors). I'd even test drive a potbelly XZ2 Premium as that's a sneaky good chunky *** phone.

Side mounted fingerprint scanners are fine. Owned a Robin and even though it was slow to unlock, it worked just fine. I'd take that over the under display one, which makes me pause about owning a N 9 (not to be confused with the N9 - shout out to Mr. Clue again clapping when I mention the word "Meego"). It's not that taller from what I'm seeing than a V40 or a Note 9.

Sony did some decent stuff last year, really. As always, their pricing was asinine.

Let's see the reviews first. If you do like it, let's see if Sony continues the madness and launches the X 2 (not to be confused with the highly functional but largely underwhelming X2) at IFA in the fall. #Sonypricecuts ...
In a sense this is the phone Sony should have brought out a while back and then worked on getting the mix right. At least they're heading the right way now.

There's no reason why Sony shouldn't be a top OEM with their technologies.

Now whether anyone likes what they're doing will all depend on reviews and people's experience.

In general it looks like they addressed everything that most people were frustrated about. OIS, RAW, multiple cameras, fingerprint scanner, full screen etc. Whether this is good enough or better remains to be seen.

The main question is if people like the tall phone? Is it too big? It's the format too weird?

So in some ways Sony is on target in others they differentiated themselves from everyone else. Is the difference good or bad?

I'm very curious but whether I'll buy this is a different story all together. It may be too tall for me and I'm waiting on the same things like I am for the Nokia 9. I'm not going to pay top dollar either. Prices I heard for the UK is £799. Which isn't bad but I'm not in the UK.

Lastly my hope is they move to a yearly cycle. The six month thing is a bit silly.

I'm still rooting for Sony as they make good products but they make it hard sometimes.

I also picked up a wireless mouse for work. I hate wired mice.

I can't use my Performance MX as I can't load the software. On top of that the middle button appears to have given up.

So I picked up a silent M330 in black. Does the job.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Lastly I pickup up a display port to HDMI converter. Plan is to change my wife's computer to the Surface 3 Pro we have. Just need to find a dock now.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So, my thoughts still stand... I don't like when sales reps try to sell me stuff.

I went to go see the S10 series and got interrupted by a sales rep who decided to try to sell me stuff. He took it as a challenge...and 15 minutes later I left with a cell number and he got no sale. I could have pre-ordered the S10e for a cheap price and I have over $1000 in financing credits with t-mo.

He really pushed hard for an opening and I counter punched at every turn. He wasn't aggressive but he was persistent. He even asked why I was using a wireless headphones when I said that a DAC was important. "Dude, the weather is garbage...to be unencumbered, I go wireless, but my wired headphones are primary."

He lost here:

Rep: "what phone do you have?"
MIA: "LG G7+."

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So... I'll say it:

For me, a punch - hole display of 2019 isn't an improvement over the Apple style notch of 2018.

I got some time with the S10e, and I wasn't feeling the punch-hole at all. I was going to check out the S10, but got hijacked by the sales rep - see above. Honestly, I think if I were to get a Samsung, it would have been the S9. Otherwise, I'll wait to see how the Nokia 9 looks.

I'm sure some will like it... It's just not for me. Not hating on it, I just don't think it's the answer to more screen real estate.

That's a fair point. Your comment about this made me think of one that I read this week on either AC or PhoneArena (but I really think AC) in reference to that. The comment said something along the lines of, "who knows how long it will take developers to code around the hole...and that is if they do. Even now, there are still some apps that aren't updated for the XS Max".

I read that and I realized that I didn't even think of that. That is such a valid point, which kind of gives me a little bit of pause. I remember how it was when I had the Xr. Very few, if any apps were updated to support it (at that time, it was also new to be fair) and that's iOS. How will it be on the Android side of things?

I read on my phone quite a bit, especially e-books. If the reading experience kinda sucks on my main 2 apps for a while, I will not be pleased.

That would have annoyed the hell out of me.

I get that they need to make sales but leave me alone if I tell you I'm just looking. Pushing me will just make buy from somewhere else.

It's part of the reason why people buy online a lot.

Speaking of the Nokia 9, it's going to have a promotional price of $600 for a few days. What do you think about that?

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Current device line up
S9
Xr
Oppo R17 Pro

By next week lineup will change to
S10+
Pixel 3XL
Oppo R17 Pro
Xr

Don't know if I want to continue this line up or not.

I might sell one or two above and give the Nokia 9 a twirl.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Spent a few hours in the mall window shopping!!
The Vivo V15pro (and its selfie lens) is out!! ....... selling for ¬ $417 same as the Nokia 8.1, and the older v11pro.
No word from the dealer on the Nokia9 at all...

Was actually comparing several sound bars for around ¬$400-$450... and shortlisted the JBL 2 & a Yamaha...I was quite surprised with the quality of the Yamaha YAS207. I did try some Samsung/Sony in that price range, and it was, erm, not very good at all.

Oh!, should have seen the expression on the sales assistance when they saw me pairing my 950XL to the sound-bars. "your phone looks like a computer"

That expression sounds amusing

Dang, hopefully soon on the Nokia 9.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

In other news I bought these.

https://www.soundguys.com/soundpeats-engine-review-21275/

I just got them so can't say much at this stage. In general I like them. Still seeing if the battery is as good as they say it is.
Ok so far the battery is pretty damn good. I ran them for about 5 hours today and about 2hrs yesterday. Going to see how much more I can push. They apparently last 12hrs.

I don't mind the sound at all. I've been listening to podcasts and music. They're good enough for me. Looking at the reviews they complained about bass and some other things but I'm not experiencing that. I wonder if that's Sony or my hearing sucks. Sony does Bluetooth audio very well though.

They're pretty comfortable and the neck strap comes in handy. They even came with a nice case.

For the price I think they're pretty fantastic. I can't complain about these.

To give a better review on sound I'll need to listen to more music and more variety.
