Racism in Europe is just as bad in its own way. It is the source where this stuff came from.

I don't need to remind folks of one of the easiest examples here for those who are soccer fans - monkey chants or throwing bananas/banana peels at players.

Honestly, 90% of the world issues can be traced back to Europe to some extent. Racism in my country is harder to spot, since it's 99% white. The only non-whites in Balkan are Romani and that's pretty much it.

Recently, I saw a Harvard(?) research on racism and my country came out as one of the least racist. Uh, don't know, maybe I have a pessimistic view, but I don't think those are necessarily representative results.

Italy. A country with a club that only recently signed it's first black player.

He didn't have a good time there.

Pixel is nice to use...the battery anxiety is too restricting for my taste. I'm not sure what Google will do here.

Wish they used their cajones to go: these are our phones going forward. Only two models:

Pixel 5: SD768G, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, 1080P OLED @ 6.5", 3 cameras, 4000mah, stereo speakers, Qi and UDFPS. $750.

Pixel 5A: SD710, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage, 1080P IPS @5.8", 3100mah, dual cameras, rear FPS., 3.5mm. $400.

Updates: 3 years major OS and 4 years of patches

Peanut gallery who liked the smaller high end model with the battery would be upset, but I feel it's a clear enough distinction.

No more 64GB variants, especially since Google doesn't want microSD or 256GB storage. As a carrier, you could promote the 5A to all hell and move some units there.

The reason why I wished that they did something like this was just to take a big little hardware approach at different price points to offer their takes as examples of "cleaner Android". If they want to use these hardwares to showcase the UX, great. If they're going to move units, then jump all in with variants and still pick two price points you plan to compete in.

What we have now is Google at their wishy-washy finest.

You may have ethnocentrism as the more obvious marker...but I know racism is there. We still live in a global post modern society shaped by imperialism rooted in chattel slavery. Which means the world views white = normal.

Why I can say that confidently? Grew up with a girl who came from Greenland on foreign exchange program for a year. She stated frankly that the first black person she met was when she landed in the island. All she knew of black people was what was in the media. She had her own misinformation and when she dived heads first into the culture, she was good.

Side note - I think of all the foreign exchange students we had that year, only the stuck up French girl that thought she was cuter than everyone else (when she had average white folks looks) had the toughest time. We had the French girl, the one from Greenland, the LGBT northern Italian girl and the Southern Italian guy. The last three had a great time.

As pervasive as the media is with examples of positive images of people of color, the same media as elements reinforcing those stereotypes. It's everywhere, sadly.

I know. He's done stupid in his career, but can't deny that. I've watched Serie A games where they boo and do monkey chants at black players more than once. The worst thing is that both the clubs and the national association have denied this for years.

Take Lazzio for example. These ******** are openly racist and fascist.

Oh man, we have many -isms and what not, couldn't bother naming them all.

From my own experience with people, many of these perceptions, if I may call them so, come from ignorance. That is lack of information and knowledge about different people, cultures and customs.

One thing we have here are nationalist fascist, in large numbers, on all three sides, so I got a nice sample size. What most of them said about hating each other was always something like, but..but they're different, they do things differently, they look differently, don't pray like me or weird like that. Plus a bunch of made up atrocities.

Here's a thought. He may have relatively underperformed on the pitch...not everyone is built to deal with the stuff he has endured on and off it. We don't know with 100% certainty if he just peaked earlier as a player or did all of the stuff just weigh him down to the point where he couldn't focus as well on his job.

It is so multilayered it's not even funny. Lots of brown athletes want to be able to show up to work and do their jobs. Not everyone wants a public profile in discussing these issues. Quite a few work privately and that satisfies them.

The issue is: You don't get to escape being black though. It's 24/7 over a lifetime. So there's this built-in expectation to be visible if you get famous and have some reach to move the cause forward.

What makes privilege privilege is there is the choice to acknowledge something or not. If one group has an advantage over another and does things to reinforce that imbalance, you've got privilege. I have privilege in a few areas, I don't in a ton of others. I know which is why and try to use my privilege for uplifting others. And to support those who are doing the higher level work than me to push for policy and wider social changes.

That's the approach I'm taking.

I think he even touched on the subject during one of his interviews. How he only wanted to show how good he was but it was the stuff off the pitch that was burdening him. Honestly, he was a beast and very likeable character at the beginning, but I guess there was too many things that got in the way. Not everyone's the same and we deal with things differently.

This gets tiring and cynicism builds exponentially. That's the piece that's hard to understand.

Now, before I spill out the way I used to see America, you have to understand the context that I'm living in. Awful and devastated economy, corrupt politicians, attrociously low wages, high rates of financial crime and very few human rights (on paper, they exist, but rarely get exercised).
Wait a minute, didn't you just say you've never been to America?

So...i live in one of the outer boroughs, deep in the outer boroughs. This is why certain things are hard to explain.

I'm going to post two pictures on social distancing. Both are a part of the MTA's plan to notify riders of distancing. The first one is listed in Union Square in Manhattan, the second was where my stop is. As you can see, the first one is of a better quality overall - more durable. The second is some Etch-A-Sketch stenciled that looks like it'll wear off if you sneeze, pee get regular foot traffic or the slightest thunderstorm hits it.

Now some may say - MTA has no money. Yes, there is some truth in that. Some may say, that's easier to install because of the tile layout on some platforms are different vs others. My counterpoint: how you find money to do some the good way and others this ? You have the subways closed right now from 1-5AM - you tell me you could do any staggered work to install a better version on the outer platforms?

Now, I'll add in the other layers. Union Square of course is in Manhattan. I'm in an outer borough. In one of the poorer neighborhoods, mostly brown people now (used to be a Jewish enclave). Of course the optics of putting the bootleg version in the poor neighborhood has its own look.

But hey, you decide...

(that's a facepalm)
I feel like it should be more cost effective to have the same signage everywhere. It's very clear here what's going on. There's no good excuse for this.

It reminds me of what happened at work with the renovation. To replace the HVAC, a lot of lights had to be replaced. However all of them weren't replaced so it's a mix of old and new lights. Why? Apparently the budget was why.

So our president just gave an address.

He said starting tomorrow things should go back to normal.

We won the first battle.

There was no information on what normal meant. He mentioned the virus is full around. But it seemed like he was saying literally go back to normal. No masks, no social distancing. Nothing said. Unless he just assumed people would know that's life now? Don't know, lots of dumb asses here...

It's a bit disturbing.

I guess I'll see what my work has to say.

I'd prefer to stay working from home as much as possible. Going in one or two days is fine.

Apparently productively has dropped significantly. That's what happens though when you have crap workers already and you let them be crap away from management. They do even less.

They have some serious things to fix at work. They have too many twilight employees who are not very interested in the work anymore or learning new skills. Remote working was probably too hard for them in a lot of ways.

They need some keen young blood if they want to keep doing this type of work efficiently....

There's a few of us planning to talk to management with a strategy but who knows if they'll listen?
