WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I'm no gun advocate. I'm not into violent movies. I'm not a fan of glorifying killing others either.

However, I watched those cartoons and others (which are not really meant for kids btw) also movies and I'm ok for the most part.

Not sure if there is a strong correlation either of violence and cartoons.

Not saying issues don't happen because some kid gets dad's gun from the bedside table and shoots his brother, for example. But that's more an issue of gun ownership than anything else.

I'm often at odds about these things. In one way I get it. On the other I'm also a realist.

Gun ownership entails responsibility. For example, some parents feel that putting the safety is enough. That's a thumb flick away from tragedy. An unloaded gun is useless unless the intruder is kind enough to wait for you to load some ammo. Same thing with a gun locker.

When my daughter reached the age of 4 she could pretty much reach all corners of the house so I had to assess the weapon situation. I got rid of the .357 Magnum revolver because it was too easy to pull the trigger and kept the semi-automatics. The 9mm has a very hard spring and even my wife had a difficult time raking the slide (I taught her a trick). The final step was crude but extremely effective after she was a teenager. One day at the range I loaded a hot round in the 9 and let her fire it off. Needless to say that hand cannon would've ripped her arm off at the shoulder if I didn't do it hand-over-hand with her but the important lesson was that she felt the power. I'm sure I could leave a loaded gun right next to her TV remote and she wouldn't go near it - not that I would do such a crazy thing but you get the gist.

As with everything else in life, education is key. It only takes an hour or two to teach a kid about gun safety but it can save a tragedy that takes less than a second.

While I do believe that kids learn things from cartoons, I can't agree they learn the violence from it. Same thing goes for video games. I've played Counter-Strike, GTA, Max Payne and all kinds of violent games, but here I am, not going on a killing spree.

I think many things are being exaggerated lately. Without the need to.

Only if they run out of French Roast at Starbucks. It's off to the Post Office if that happens.
I like a good French roast coffee. Though personally I just like a good coffee.

Still searching here for one. We found something decent but it's not exactly what we want.

As for Starbucks.... I'm reminded of a sign I was in a cafe in Australia....

Friends don't take friends to Starbucks.

Need to keep in mind that in Australia, Starbucks is low end coffee.

young kids can learn violence from cartoons but only because they don't know what they are learning. I am speaking from experience. I remember seeing heads getting slammed together on some cartoon, then I tried it at school. this was back when corporal punishment was still practiced. I learned my lesson real quick - never did it again. It is because of idiots like me they started putting "don't try this at home" into a lot of shows. so yes, I do believe kids can learn violence from shows, Most learn their lesson one way or another but some don't.

I don't see that as a violence in the most serious context. To me that's just kids being stupid, just kids being kids.

I watched that show where they do acrobatics with motorcross and thought I myself could go over a rock with a bike. I couldn't and I cracked my knee open. Twice.

I wasn't exactly a prodigy as a small kid. Couldn't recognise a single letter and counting was miles away. I even started first year without knowing any of those, lol. Mum thought she had a dumb kid, while I was just hard to motivate.

You obviously are smart since you're studying engineering in college.

it may be kids being kids but I would have never done it if I did not see it on tv and was my point. If I was not stopped after the first time, most likely I would have done it again.

Oh, I agree.

I had a neighbour kid who loved watching Dennis the Menace cartoon. His mum not so much.

As they say in the South - don't pay that no mind.

I don't agree with that school of thought for a second, no pun intended. I never went to kindergarten (it didn't exist in Cuba in the 60s) and I started 1st grade here in the US in a distinctly white, zero Hispanic city (Jacksonville, Fl.) and not a lick of Inglés to my name. I think I did alright.

Kids learn from a variety of things.

Other kids. Other adults. Movies, books, cartoons, TV shows.

Kids are sponges. It's part of being a kid.

As for what's right and wrong. Kids do all sorts of nasty things to each other in general. Part of growing up is experimenting, figuring things out, seeing where you fit in society.

Kids do stupid things. That's part of being a kid.

Train To Busan, World War Z, Kingdom II... jeez I'm binging on this genre.. kinda feel surreal
Weather had turn back to blistering hot sunny days. Took a short walk to the nearby shops for takeaway lunch... streets are empty. Didn't put on the mask til I reach the shops, everyone is wearing one.
The missus tried her hand and baked a shortbread... turn out alright for her first try. I made a pot of tea. Yeah it's been a good a lunch!!

So here's something.

I've worked for a lot of companies but this is a first.

I'm at the office today, luckily.

I cannot use my security card and I cannot login. Why? Because they put some arbitrary expiration date on my account.

I didn't receive an email about this. Had no knowledge this was going to happen.

Yes, I'm still employed, if you're wondering...

However, I'm currently doing nothing while I wait for IT and some other person to show up so I can get my access back.

What silly system.

Morning crew! (Just after 10 am here on the east coast U.S.)

So with the very small amount of free “me time” I’ve had here and there lately, I’ve been getting more and more into synthesis, and synthesis/music production on the iOS/iPadOS platform more specifically. I’ve put together a mostly portable iPadOS production studio. Things have come a really long way in terms of hardware AND software for this kind of setup!

This is a diagram of my new production rig I did in Pixelmator. My (new to me) iPad Pro 11 (2018) with the USB-C port had really opened up new worlds of possibilities! Of course these USB -C hubs are an integral part of the equation. It feels (and SOUNDs!!) so good not to be tethered to the desktop for music production and multitrack recording!

It still amazes me that USB-C can handle power, audio, midi, and things that haven’t even been invented yet. People that are flipping out because of the lack of a 3.5 mm audio jack on their USB-C equipped device are not realizing what they have in their hands lol!
