Aside from Lumia Camera, biggest improvements I've noticed so far since the update last week are no random reboots and much-improved voice-to-text recognition.

Yeah, I just need the update to stop the random reboots and wifi/bluetooth freezes.

The denim update solved it on my 985 just need it for the 983.

I have a 985 on att. I'm using update 2 development preview. Lumia camera is saying I don't have denim but I thought the phone came with it? Did I screw it up by updating it myself with the development preview app?

The RM-985 came with a lower version of Denim and was updated to the real Denim a few months ago brining Lumia Camera goodies. Since you are already on a higher version OS you'll have to either downgrade using Windows Phone Recovery Tool and then update to Denim or try disabling Preview for Developers and try again.

I reverted using the recovery tool. Checked for updates and nothing. Lumia camera is still saying I need to update to denim even though I got a message from Microsoft saying welcome to denim 👎

Nevermind I found it. It's 983. You think if I went to my local Microsoft store and complained they'd give me a different one? It's still under warranty apparently.

Re: When will AT&T Lumia 830 get PROPER Denim update?

I was told that the Denim fw update is unfortunately a matter of carrier approval and it depends. Nothing new of course, but the support person suggested I contact ATT with this, which I will. And of course we all know the outcome of this....

That this type of issue is fully on the carrier's shoulders has been widely discussed/mentioned on this site for many years now. Ever since WP7, MS has repeatedly tried to get the carriers to allow for more timely firmware updates... with zero success beyond the preview programs.

I've had the real Denim update on my L830 for at least two months now, and I admit I underestimated both how valuable rich capture is, and how much of a road-block U.S. carriers are for the WP update process. I would have sworn everybody would have real Denim by now. If I was in the U.S. I'd probably flash a different country's ROM and forget about LTE.

I've been on my honeymoon and the upgraded camera with rich capture has been super handy quite a few times when we didn't have our real/larger camera on us. It's a valuable feature that allowed us to capture high contrast images the L830 without real Denim would have struggled with.

Ohh well, welcome to the party! lol

Btw if the seller on eBay sold you a RM-983 instead of the expected RM-985 then you better return it ASAP. The RM-985 comes for a higher price for a reason.

I agree. How long have you had it? If it's under 30 days, you can open a return. If you are OK with the 983, then I'd get a partial refund, because you probably paid more for it.

As for MS store, if you bought it on eBay, unless it was from the MS store on eBay, I can't see them helping you.

Can't believe it's June 2015 and still no 830 Denim update from AT&T.

I have a summer vacation coming up over July 4th and my AT&T contract is over end of June, so if I don't have Denim in time for this vacation I will probably sell my 830 unlocked for whatever I can get for it and go back to using my 920. Maybe start looking into a different carrier for off contract service. It's too bad because up until now I've been satisfied with AT&T service. :unhappy:

I bought it a couple weeks ago. For the most part I'm happy with it. The camera is really bad for a Lumia device. I had a 1020 with Lumia camera and it was amazing and I expected something fairly similar. Especially for shots where my son is jumping around and moving all over the place.

but I bought it for $270 on eBay. The model number was listed as a 985 and he said in the description that it was still under Microsoft warranty. So ill be contacting him.

There's nothing wrong with it, and you want to keep it, that's cool. In that case, you should get a refund of about $50.
