My cousin was kind enough to get me one as a graduation present! We went to the MS store just to get the sizes right. While she preordered Bands 2 for me, I preordered the Lumia 950XL d:

You know what... My biggest reservation on buying it is that they still haven't implemented music control. That was honestly half the reason I bought the Band 1, because they reported here that music control was coming. It still isn't here, other than a really clunky 3rd party app that doesn't really work. But the new band only changes the aesthetic, fit, screen material (Gorilla Glass), and adds a barometer. I don't care at all about those first two things; the first Band is fine for me in those regards.

Lack of music controls is disgraceful in a fitness device or any smartwatch/pseudo smartwatch. I'm amazed at how few people don't mention it. I was ready to buy the band until I found this lack of a feature.

Like many expressed I purchased the 13 month warranty but as of last week my band must be replaced (clasp held on by tape.) waiting for release to see if any deal can/will be made as it must get replaced, just hoping for a 2, if not I may gift the 1 and outright buy 2 for nothing more than gorilla glass and seemingly improved clasp.

Ya, and an article here said it was coming and I believed it, because how could Microsoft not implement that feature?

Another review pointed out that the Band lacks an OS. It also doesn't have multi-tasking. And since most people would expect to be doing something along with playing the music, that might be why no music features were implemented.

I'll be interested to see if the quality of the new band differs from the first model. I would like to be able to wear mine every day but I've read a lot of articles about the first version having a poor build quality. I'm thinking of purchasing one of these as a Christmas gift to myself but will wait for reviews from others before I do.

I intend to buy one if and when they finally make it available in Australia.
Seriously, I can't see why they don't release it world-wide up front. Makes them look stupid with all this promotion in Australia but nobody is allowed to buy one.

You can control the music through Cortana if you have a Windows Phone.

Ya, but then you have to talk to the thing, wait for it to figure it out, and hope that it heard you right. And you can't control the volume.

Um. If you're using it, it has an OS. Just not a very complex one. Also, not sure exactly what kind of multi-tasking you'd need to be doing on your fitness tracker :p

But they could just add a thing where you pull down from the top of the screen or whatever, and place music controls in a drawer there. Shouldn't be that hard to add.

At the moment, the Lumia 950 has priority, but the Band 2 may follow suit not too long after. Who knows, they might do a nice little deal with the Band and the 950.

It totally depends on what your priority is. The band 2 does not start my car when I step in, does not open garage door when I reach home, does not open beer, does not charge up my phone when phone battery runs down, ...
Band 2 just does not provide many conveniences we expected. But I bought one because it does what it is designed for, and from what I heard, it does it pretty well.

Indeed, it would have been nice to have a small amount of storage space on the band for a couple of MP3's and the ability to connect to a bluetooth headset.. That would allow you to just take your band 2 and bluetooth headset without phone on a run.. but oh well now I have to continue listen to radio instead of my own music with my jabra bluetooth headset during runs..

I'm planning to get one of these for Christmas but waiting to see if there's any kind of bundle available with the new 950XL phone. My cardio of choice is Zumba. I wonder how the Band 2 will work for that?

So, uh... I just found out about the "smart alarm" feature yesterday, which apparently won't be coming to Band 1. If that actually works and can wake me up so that I don't feel tired in the morning, that feature is almost worth the $250 price tag by itself... So, I'm, uh, taking back a lot of what I've said... :winktongue:

Stopped by the Microsoft store today to replace my Band 1, which was starting to breakdown (corrosion on the charging port). No Band 1 in stock, but they were willing to take my Band 1 as a trade in for a Band 2. $100 dollars off made the upgrade look that much better and keeps me as a customer and ambassador.

That's great to hear! I was actually planning on going over to my Microsoft store today to see about that. $100 is a bit steep for what I was saying earlier, but what I just said about how I feel about the "smart alarm" feature means I'll be paying that much, too, if they offer me the same :p Gonna try to figure out if they have the Band 1 in stock, first, before I bring it up, though, so I don't end up trading it out for another 1st gen today... That way I can try again later if needed. Yay for playing the system :winktongue:

Update: So, they didn't have my size of the 1st gen in stock, but they wouldn't give me a 2nd gen, either, unless I paid the full $250... So basically just not honoring the extended warranty that I paid for. :eck: To be clear, my Band does actually have a couple minor issues that I was told do warrant a replacement at the time of purchasing the warranty. Is it just me, or does that not sound like Microsoft? Also, what do I do now? Ugh

I had no idea this was an option! That would have been a great idea... ugh! Lucky!
