wifi on @ all times?

I know in the recent OS update wifi is turned off while in sleep mode to save battery but for rest of the world who does not have unlimited data this is a big problem.

my work email is VERY active and 95% of the time I am around an active wifi, im not sure why no option was given to the user... let me decide if battery life is more important than data usage but either way is there a hack of any kind out there? Is there no app that runs in the background that can force the wifi on at all times?

right now I am using "connection tiles" and pretty much manually turning data/wifi on/off as needed. Seems a step back considering my previous, previous black berry could handle it.

thanks,

From what I have heard/seen is that the wifi will wake up every so often and check your applications that have syncing enabled. (I believe the window is 15 minutes but I could be wrong).

What's your data cap and roughly how many emails do you get in a day? Emails use up so little data that you're unlikely to use a significant amount in any given month.

Wifi is off when the phone is under lockscreen.
It does not even keep the connection alive. After 5 minutes it breaks off the access point and its done (Tested via pinging). The apps can have background worksers that run every 15(or other periods) minutes but im sure you can't force the wifi to connect! The wifi managment is the OS's job.
Microsoft made WP7 pritty boxed for developers. There was some talk about access to native code but I guess It'll be just parts of the code that are impotant to catch up with the competition. I guess you can hope Wifi is on the list :)

Leave WiFi on all the time. No reason to toggle it off/on. Will burn through a whopping 5-6% of your battery in 24 hours while sleeping. With data disabled, WiFi will turn on every 2 hours and check for updates. But as noted, email uses very little data. And when you turn your phone on to check messages, you will be using WiFi to download images, attachments, etc.

When I am at work I get no ATT coverage. We do have perfect wifi everywhere though.

My iPhone would receive text messages through the wifi via iChat.

Any way to get this thing to at least keep the wifi active so I can always get email?

Im frustrated this phone doesnt give me information fast like my iPhone as far as missed emails/texts. When I miss a text and I slide the lock screen I can see the icon has nothing at first, then updates to a 1 or however many missed texts.

Really hoping the next update is soon and has a lot of the missing features. This OS is still in its teenage years IMO.

I have no idea why, but today my phone's WiFi was on all the time, even under lock screen. Was back to normal (i.e. WiFi off when locked for some time) after I turned Flight mode on and off. Can't remember doing anything that might have caused this, although I did turn on Wireless Sync. Not sure if that was the reason or if it's a bug.

Having wifi or not should have absolutely no effect over whether you get text messages or not. When you said iChat, did you mean iMessage? If so, those aren't really text messages and that would only work with other iPhone users.

This sucks as cell reception at work is very poor inside and I rely on wifi. I'm finding now that even after I unlock my phone it doesn't seem to be syncing my email and I actually have to open them up. All the while my iPhone is beeping like crazy while it's locked getting emails perfectly.

Lumia can't hold the signal and my iPhone can cling to 1 bar pretty well.

Icons for missed messages and emails will appear at the bottom of your lock screen. Your tile on your home screen updates pretty much instantly. Frankly speaking it doesn't even take a second before the missed count goes up so I'm not sure what the issue is here. I would suppose it's part of the live tile aesthetics, although I've only noticed it for messages so far.

Was playing around with the settings and I found that my WiFi would remain on in some cases. It was over the space of 5-10 minutes in each case so I can't be sure it works, although if I'm not wrong WiFi will turn off pretty quickly in most cases. Anyway, try setting your mail sync settings to "as items arrive" if you haven't already.

Did you set the mail to sync items as they arrive?

Yes I fixed this yesterday. Right now my iPhone says I have 5 new mails in hotmail and the Lumia is unlocked and sitting here and not saying or doing anything.

I think i did mean iMessage.

GF has an iPhone and we got used to sending text messages via wifi.

She has been emailing me but my emails dont come through because the wifi isnt active.

I just really wish ATT would have better coverage here. Still love this phone though.
