Hey,
Week ago or so I've upgraded my windows from 8 to 8.1 and since then my computer wont recognize my phone. In cpanel I can see this http://i.imgur.com/0coYs12.png but there is no way for updating it tried everything thats why I'm posting here. I'm not the only one, friend of mine has a same problem. Lumia is charging fine. USB cable works fine 100%.
Any help would be nice.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome Dino. Just tried plugging mine into my W8.1 laptop, as I usually use my phone in my Windows 7 Desktop PC and haven't plugged it in to my laptop since the upgrade to 8.1. Anyway, Windows 8.1 has just installed it fine with me and it is working normally. Try going into Device Manager, right click on the device, then click Uninstall, then reboot your laptop and plug it back in again.

Ok, no worries. Try plugging it into a different USB port. If you are using a USB3.0 port, use a USB2 port (or vice versa), as Windows will often see it as a new device and reinstall the drivers from fresh.

If this doesn't work, go back into Device Manager, double click on the 920's device name. In the Device status box, what error Code does it show?

Doesn't work, the error code is:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There are no compatible drivers for this device.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

Tried to update driver btw and searched for solution on google doesn't work :(

Thanks for the info. Definitely a driver problem then, but this code doesn't always mean the driver is missing, it's just that sometimes Windows cannot install the driver properly. You see it on printers as well sometimes, but there's not one universal fix that solves these problems.

One solution which has worked for some I see, is to connect the phone again to the computer. Keep the phone plugged in through the USB to the computer throughout this. Turn the phone off by holding it's power button down as you usually would. The phone should switch off and restart. When it restarts hopefully the drivers will be reinstalled properly this time. Give this is a go and see if this solves it.

I actually had a few 'buggy' problems when I upgraded to Windows 8.1. IE would not work correctly, some live tiles would not work no matter what I tried and a couple of other issues. What I did in the end was to 'Refresh' Windows. Then install 8.1 again and everything worked fine. I'm not saying do this just yet, but if all else fails this would probably sort the problem.

No problem at all, sorry I couldn't come up with something to get it to install properly. You could hang on to see if any others have come across this problem before and have a solution, but it sounds like you've tried most things now. Hopefully a Refresh will sort this out if you do decide to do it, it sorted my problems out (although not directly related to yours).

I have had this exact problem and having been trying for days to get this to work after upgrading my laptop to windows 8. Leaving the phone plugged in via the usb cable and powering it off, seems to have done the trick. Hope it works for good now, very frustrating.

I had the same problem, Windows N does not have the media pack. If you install the media pack, this will solve the issue on WIndows 8.x N.

I'm no expert... But I was having the same problem with my 920 and so I went to device manager and uninstalled the files for Windows phone and then reinstalled them and that fixed it for me.

I've got same problem as you guys. The origin post is from 11-23-2013 but nothing what I've found works, the path was post Diggleman.
Problem:
Windows 8.1 N + Samsung Galaxy S5, when connecting there was unrecognizer device, no compatible drivers etc.
Solution:
Download KB2835517 - Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 8.1 http // www microsoft com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40744
And then everything runs flawlessly ;)

I am having the same issue. I have just upgraded to a Nokia Lumia 930 and I have Windows 8.1 Pro both devices are fully up to date. If I plug in my 930, the PC doesn't even blink. It's as though I haven't plugged anything in at all.

The phone recognises that it's plugged into a charger and is charging fine but that's it.

I have tried many suggestions that people have posted but nothing has worked. If I plug in my (old phone) HTC 8s Windows Phone which is also up to date, perfect connection. If I plug in my NEXUS 5 phone, perfect connection. My wife's iPhone 6 perfect connection. The only phone that doesn't get detected is my new Nokia 930.

I have looked in Device Manager and there is nothing, no detection of a device nothing. I just don't seem to be able to get them to talk. My Nokia 930 is fresh out the box like 2 days ago so its a brand new install.

Kind regards,

Solution Finally :)
It seems that after upgrading to Win 8.1, media devices were not connected to pc properly, however they were displayed in "my pc " or device manager. I upgraded to Win 10 while deleting all my precious apps and data, thinking that it'd solve the issue, but it wasn't any successful, rather i lost all my vaio preloaded apps. I tried various solutions from here but sadly none worked for me (no offense 2 experts that were trying their best 2 help).
Just now i installed Media go, and everything started working fine again, don't know how, but it seems that during installation, Media Go also installed some other drivers which were at first missing from windows 8.1, but were present in the older version, that is,Win 8.
Just thought of sharing this info to help others like me.

Good luck. I know Media Go is not the best app but have a try, it's the only fix that worked for me.
BTW install foobar 2000 for better music listening experience.

NOTE: If it still didn't worked, install the media feature pack as how the "rlime" guy stated before. It will definitely work like a charm this time.
