windows phone stuck gmail sync

It seems the issue of the Gmail stuck syncing has been around for years and I've read and tried every suggestion I can find short of a hard reset.

I cannot believe that Microsoft haven't fixed this after so long? It's absolutely pathetic.

My issue is I want to backup my whatsapp conversations but the solution is to hard reset?! If I hard reset I lost my whatsapp...

there is no way to backup your whatsapp messages on a windows mobile device - this is only possible if you have an android device and the backup is connected to google drive
