Wireless charger chimes in the middle of the night after GDR2/Amber

jeffmparker,
on my previous post I asked, if the other repliers are from the US and got answer that they indeed are. The reason of asking that, was that I haven't read about the problem from any forums here in Finland (as I told on my post before that). Ok, that's that. Then back to problem, is the chime you here the very same, that comes when you put your phone onto the charger?

I came here hoping to find an answer to this very problem. Though I take comfort in the fact that I'm not alone, alas, tonight will be another night of having my sleep randomly interrupted by my charging phone.

My wife, who also owns a 920, is not taking the situation quite as calmly.

I thought mine was doing that but it turned out that the update changed my email alert sound to the same sound as the wireless charging sound and I was just receiving emails.
Also, if you put your phone on silent, the alarm will still work but it mutes all notifications, including the charging sound.

Same here, ATT. On top of that random discharges came back with the update as well. So now I can't charge the phone because of annoying sounds and it discharges at random times if not on charger. I gave WP a year, just like I gave Android a year. Moving back to iOS.

my 920 stopped wireless charging entirely after installing amber. i tried a few suggestions to fix it but nothing got it working again. i called at&t about fixing or replacing it 2 days ago.

without any argument, they offered to replace it. with a 1020. they moved up my upgrade eligibility to now (a year early) and shipped it fed ex for free.

Yes, the same sound. I've also noticed that when my L920 is in my CR-200 it also randomly makes the same sound, i.e. suggesting that the charging stopped at some stage (perhaps very momentarily) and then restarts.

My wifes 920 is also having this issue. We are in the US on AT&T also. It is a very annoying thing. I swapped her black polycarbonate shell to the yellow shell I bought on eBay and had thought I may have installed the wireless charging coil incorrectly, or it slipped. I checked it and it is positioned correctly. I believe it to be the same glitch you folks are experiencing after Amber and Gdr3 updates.

I have been having this issue since the Amber Update (last week for me in MDT - US).
Chiming intermittently at work and at home (waking me up @ 3:00 am - not pleasant!) - both on Nokia charging pads.

However, I may have stumbled across a fix:
Plug a set of headphones into your 920!
The chime goes through the headphones, but any received calls go through the speakers (waking you up).
I am not noticing the vibration here at work (will confirm tonight).

This is definitely a work around, but seems to be working so far...

Now if they will just hurry up with the fix for this...

All it takes to fix my issue is re-situating my 920 on the wireless charger. I let about a 1/8" to 1/4" of the end with the white indicator light stick out under the phone and it works perfectly. If I position the phone exactly in the middle so that it hangs over the indicator light edge, it has problems and sounds the charging chime repeatedly.

Same issue for me. AT&T 920. I also have microphone issues, no one is able to hear my until I restart the phone. Works for a few days and then goes bad again. Going to do a factory rest and report back.

Havent got this issue myself but maybe generator switching is the issue.

Most national grid electricity providers do a generator switchover in the early hours of the morning - the power drop is usually enough to make lights flicker for a split second and maybe the power drop is enough to make the wireless charging pads drop power just enough to initiate the recharging sound.

Just a suggestion of course but it would explain why it only happens in the early hours of the morning for everyone no matter where you are in the world.

And they just decided to do this since Nokia updated their phones? It never happened before so that wouldn't explain it, at all.

At least he/she is trying to theorize. You never know...it may not be the initial cause but a contributor. What if the GDR2 update adjusted the phone's charging habits and causing the slightest interruption of wireless charging to halt the charge (like sensitivity was adjusted). Then, martinmc78's thought could very easily be a contributing variable. The chance may be low but is still a theory never-the-less.

I'm not sure if this is related to the charger or the phone radios. I noticed that whenever the charger "resets," the cell radio disconnects and reconnects itself. It goes from no signal to full, even though the phone hasn't moved. It's almost as if the entire radio stack is rebooting...

It maybe coincidence, but two days ago I turned off "battery saver" as a test, and this glitch hasn't appeared since.

Can someone else test this theory?

Thanks.
