"Every update that ever", or just one. Same thing, I guess. On ~6-12 month old flagships.

I've gotten several OS updates on my phone already and I'll get a major one I wasn't even counting on with 7.8.

Sounds good to me. When I want WP8 I'll get it with a new phone. A lot better than trying to shoehorn an advanced new OS into older hardware with the performance problems that will inevitably follow especially when you try to run new software optimized for faster hardware with dual core processors.

Ask anyone who's updated an older iPhone.

Advanced new? Good lord, will u just stop it.

I've updated a few iPhones and it wasn't horrible. The 3GS experience was. But that was expected. Again, I'm pretty sure the person you quoted was talking about Gen 2 devices that released with Mango.
