I have been tearing my hair out on the inability to upgrade to 10586.36. I always get the 0x80188306 error. Ive tried soft resets, hard resets. I was able to get to 10586.29 and upgrade the firmware from latest update which is something. Ive seen lots of users saying the same but no dedicated threads with advice. Has anyone been able to solve this? A fresh install with no Insider shows .29 being latest update. Then install Insider and fail at 1% with 0x80188306 error every time. Tried different wifis, different process in steps etc. Absolutely stuck.

My phone is single sim from Hong Kong. I have bene on Win 10 preview since inception on a 1520 with no issues. Have seen Win 10 get better and better. Unfortunately the battery life on the 950XL was killing me and maybe the .29 update has recitifed this. I just want to be sure and be on .36.

I've had the same issue and honestly believe this is due to the recent firmware update. Users on 10586.36 are unable to receive the firmware update. Users on 10586.29 are able to receive the firmware update, but once updated, are unable to upgrade to 10586.36. This should be fixed with the next upgrade.

Ah thanks. Your message has helped me relax and just let Microsoft work it out. I got the firmware and .29 so thats something. Hoping thats a big improvement over .00 for battery life.

Time to rebuild the phone again. I dont like restoring from backup.

Now the wheels are starting turn. I'm also on the 2008 firmware in the US. Something about this firmware version is keeping us from completing the .36 install.

Still get the same error with the new .63 update released today! :unhappy:

I can't even get past the 0.29 update. Still the same error. Nothing I can think of or scrounge up from the internet works. It really shouldn't be this complicated. I'd rest easier knowing the cause of the issue but can find nothing. Very disappointing indeed.

Sorry I should have been more clear about my post. I am on the same boat. I am currently on .29. Cant update to .36 OR .63 both have the same error. I was really hoping .63 released today fixes the issue!

Another hard reset with both the SIM and micro-SD removed, and the 0.63 update appears as available. Tried the process again with this build (would be going 0.29 to 0.63) and the same error message I've been getting results.

Put the SIM back in my Nexus 6P and the 950XL back in a box. Guess I'll revisit when the next stable build is released.

Same here... still can`t upgrade.
Stuck on the .29. Now that i`ve installed the Insider app my phone get really hot and battery life is not satisfactory.
After hard/soft/whatever resets still the same disappointing experience.
I dont know what to do. I can`t even see the .63 build released yesterday.
It really frustrating having a $1000 (so called) phone that i can`t use. Had to go back to my iPhone.
MS shouldn't sell this crap. It makes me wonder what normal people would do. It took me 2 days to be able to decently use this phone. But the .29 build is so unstable and my apps simply dont respond as expected that i wanted (needed) to upgrade.
Now i`m stuck again. 950XL: great camera. And that`s all.

I can report that I have now successfully installed .63 on a single SIM 950 XL with firmware 02008. Previously I was getting the 80188306 error in the preparing stage when updating from .29 to .36. Prior to installing update I had used the Windows Device Recovery Tool to reimage 950XL back to .29 and 02008 firmware. Today I installed the Insider app and the .63 was available so I tried again and this time it worked first time. I'm in the UK.

I can confirm that this works. I was also getting error 0x80188306 upgrading from .29 to .36.

This morning I reinstalled the 02008 firmware using WDRT, installed Windows Insider, joined the fast ring, and upgraded straight to .63 without a hitch.

This was with my Hong Kong single SIM 950XL.

I am happy to report the same with me. I flashed the 10586.11 factory image via WDRT. After installing Windows Inside and checking for updates, the 10586.63 update was available for download.

What is interesting is that I was expecting the 0.29 update to be downloaded and installed via th Fast Ring, like before. Previously, the 0.36 update would show after I had installed 0.29. Now, I have gone from .11 to .63 directly without a hitch. Here is a shot from the about screen:

Thanks guys/gals for my ranting. I'm a happy camper again!!
