I just said it. YOU don`t see a reason for it. BUT, others do. You are arguing against ADDING more features which does not make sense at all.
LOL....The way the OS is build, you dont NEED one, you WANT one....There is a difference. Am I against one coming? no, not at all, Any new feature that is needed, I welcome but, also it will shut up the people who keep thinking they NEED one. These are people coming from an OS that NEEDED one...
Give me 5 examples of WHY you NEED a file manager that you CAN NOT do in the OS someplace. Then your argument would be valid here but otherwise, it's not...
and the case will be closed IF you can prove why you NEED one.....because I dont see a NEED for one... like I said, it's a WANT
I understand the need for a built in file manager; and after a conversation in another thread, I better understand the security risks involved by doing this. If Microsoft were to include this, it opens up a Pandora's Box of security issues that I'm not sure is worth the risk.
Having a third party app like Pocket File Manager is the best of both worlds. If gives you access to your files and music on your phone and lets Microsoft keep the OS more secure.
Explain what type of risk you are talking about?
Because in doing so would allow apps to potentially gain "root" access to the OS. WP apps are sandboxed for this reason. Each app has its own file store much like iOS.
why windows phone 8 does not have file manager - Microsoft Community
It's also about the balance of a NEED and a WANT. If the main things you do are, photos, documents and music/video, there are places in the OS to access this information as well as present your media/documents where you need it, why do you need a file manager ? What I mean is, If you go in Acrobat, are all your PDFs viewable ? If you go into Office, are all your Word documents viewable or at least have quick access to them ? How about Music ? Video ? Podcasts ? If you could not access your content from your applications as you need to, YES, I could see a "NEED" for a file manager.
As I partaly agree with the "want" of a file manager but, not 100% the "need" of a file manger. I think the OS does a great job with the content on the system, about the only reason I could see a file manager needed was if you wanted to take a document and move it from a SD card to local storage but, even that do you really "need" to do that ?
If you talk to 10 different people about this subject, you will hear 2 sides from every other person. I moved to Windows Phone from Windows Mobile, Yep, file manger and it was needed, it was hard when I came over to Windows Phone but, after a while, I found out that I really dont "need" one, I just wanted one because of used to use for for things...and liked it at the time..
Think about it.... do you really "NEED" a file manager ?

I have a totally opposite opinion about this situation. All of my friends with smartphones DO know what is a file manager & use it regularly even if they don't know what it's actually called. One of them wants to switch to Lumia, but is not able to because of the lack of a proper file manager. Another one who has a Lumia has stopped using it & is now happy with his Galaxy Grand.
Finally, if you are sensible enough, then you will be knowing which files you can safely delete.
Not my point.

Sorry to b*** in
you asked-
Why we need File Manager?
It's simple because we are not comfortable with current WP system.
We need a file manager so, that we can organize files or control them in better way(or the way we are comfortable with)
and if we are lucky then MS may think to integrate emails with File manager so , that not only we can easily find that specific file we want to send but can also send unsupported files.
and what's with 5 reason?
I'll give you five reason if you tell me five reason to choose Windows Phone?
Then don't allow to access app files.
We just want to access music, pics, documents, video and if possible unsupported files too.
Creating and deleting folder and arranging files in date, names etc
I don't think that's a problem for MS.
Security is just an excuse.
i keep hearing this "we", not everyone wants one u know
the os has no issues reading and organising any of my files
for videos etc , moliplayer does a wonderful job
I just said it. YOU don`t see a reason for it. BUT, others do. You are arguing against ADDING more features which does not make sense at all.
its not , theres a reason androids get rooted , hacked easier(piracy, scams etc) , u may not have write access but theres certainly read access
Again, give me 5 reasons why You or other people THINK they need a file manager in Windows Phone and it would be things you CANT do in the OS.... Otherwise your argument is completely void. Everything CAN be done in the OS, not like Android. Again, sure,I have NO problem with adding new features are good, no problem with that but, features that are NEEDED.
If you guys really want to know what the file system looks like, you can always use one of the Windows Phone 8.1 emulators in the SDK to mount the file system through the VHD. Then, you can browse through it to your heart's content. For all intents and purposes, Windows Phone 8+ is very similar to Windows 8. Conversely, if you want to root it and play with it, there is less of a use case for most consumers. Otherwise, try a third party app and see if that works for you. It's pretty clear that Microsoft does not intend to include one in the short term but the file picker for downloading and saving content is a big help. Either way, local file systems are becoming increasingly obsolete in many ways. They are merging the experience between local and cloud based storage across the stack. Everything on my phone is backed up to OneDrive so that is my file system.
even stock android needs a third party one
i have a nexus 7 and nexus 5 and they dont come with one so whats the difference between stock android, wp8.1 and ios? dont all 3 have third party ones only
