Nokia's getting licensing revenues from Microsoft for that map data, which likely fattens up those already large bailout payments that Redmond is sending to Espoo every quarter.
The income of licenses is probably minimal comparing to the potential revenues generated from the increased units sold. For instance, if Nokia kept the Nokia Maps for Nokia phones only, its marketing power compounded with Pureview tech will be huge especially in the Chinese market. Nokia Maps is the only map system that supports turn-by-turn navigation in China. Besides, the Chinese buyers are generally very focused on the phone camera feratures. So between the exclusive Nokia Maps and the Pureview camera, the sales of 920 will go crazy over there. China Mobile alone has 600 millions subscribers. So I think that Nokia will be much better off by not licensing the Nokia Maps to WP8 straightly from the sales point of view. But some may argue that Bing Maps will make WP8 look bad as a whole.

Sales will show the winner of the battle pretty soon. I got HTC, they actually market their phones pretty well.

I just want folks to shut up honestly. No reason this topic should be this long about nothing with the same names popping up on both sides of the fence.

Note again that "troll" = "anybody who does not believe that Nokia has executed flawlessly."

Note again that "troll" = "anybody who does not believe that Nokia has executed flawlessly."

No, a troll in this thread is a person who uses false information to bash Nokia and claims them to be facts... The bailout claim is the most ridiculous one since Nokia was still making a hefty profit when they announced the partnership with Microsoft. They were making over 1.4 billion dollars in profit in their latest quarter and had cash and other liquid assest worth of over 16 billion dollars. 16 000 000 000$ in the bank account and making profit does not scream "Bail me out". After they joined with Microsoft is the point they started losing money since Elop said they would drop Symbian and their sales plummeted.

Nokia still sold the most smartphones in the world at the time of announcing the Microsoft partnership.

Disclaimer: I own 14200 shares avg 3.24$ (bias)

I don't think HTC is even close to beat the Lumia 920 on design.

I mean, the phone is too tall for a 4.3' screen! Top and bottom bazels are too big and HTC tried to "cover" the top one with the huge colourful boxy speaker and the bottom one by having the capacitive buttons more centered (when compared to the 920)... but that doesn't make them any smaller...

I like the sides and the back of the phone but that front isn't good enough for me. I also preffer the 920 colours! White one (or Cyan if it is going to be announced) for me!!

I've never tried beats, but I'm eager to see how they sound. I prefer the extra effort in the audio department over the SLR super camera 2000+.

The guys at Pocketnow tried the 8X beats, and even the speaker is supposedly to be loud and clear, the guy was impressed even though it was in a loud room.

I don't even remember is headphone came with my phone or not. I know Apple sends headphones. I don't think my Focus did and my Lumia came from eBay.

Welcome to the world of Android. It'll only get worse, but you'll get used to it eventually. lol

In the Android universe the HTC fans were always dead wrong. The One X had more problems than the Nexus 7 but HTC fans couldn't admit it.

I hope the Windows HTC fans aren't half as bad.

The 8X is only a half-millimeter thinner than the 920, and the Ativ S is 2 mm thinner. (8mm and change instead of 10 mm and change). In my opinion, the difference between 8 mm and 10 mm will not be measurable except in a back-to-back comparison.

The bigger difference is weight. The Ativ S and 8X are both around 130 grams; the Lumia 920 weighs 185 grams, about 50% more. I'm not saying the Lumia 920 will be onerously heavy, but you can tell when one phone weighs 50% more than another.

Trust me on this, I am speaking from experience. I have owned the Samsung Galaxy S2(8.5mm?? I forget), iphone 4s(9.3mm), Xperia S(10.6mm), HTC One X x 2(8.9mm), and currently the GS3(8.6mm). I also had my gf's 12 mm Lumia 800 for a few weeks because it wasn't her birthday yet.

From my experience, from handling to pocketability to comfort etc., when the phone has a 3.5 - 3.7 inch screen, the thickness doesn't matter one iota. The 12mm Lumia 800 was every bit as easy to handle as the iphone 4s. It is when you get into the 4.3 inches above is where the thickness matters.

The GS2, One X, and GS3 all were much easier to pocket than the Xperia S.

So my theory is this. If your phone has a tiny 3.5 inch screen it doesn't matter. If you go for a phone with a big screen, some of that added real estate needs to be taken away from somewhere else in order to make it even with smaller phones in terms of pocketability and handling. Usually the big screen phones are thin for this purpose. If you add to the size, you have to take it away somewhere to maintain the size equilibrium.

This is where I feel all of the Windows flagships besides the Ativ S fails. Although LG pretty much went all out on the Optimus G and that hardware is very rare, there is no excuse for the Optimus G, a 4.7 inch screen phone loaded with all the latest technology, to be smaller than the HTC 8x overall.

Don't get me wrong, I will most likely end up with one of the 8x or Lumia 920 because the Ativ S is too similar to my current phone, but I really REALLY wished that they were both smaller. Especially the 8x since the screen is only 4.3 inches.

As far as WP is concerned, this site is quite a hotspot. I'll place a sportsmen's bet with you that the Lumia 920 will destroy all other Wp8 devices in sales.

:)

I actually think the Ativ S will win the sales war pretty easily, especially if the Ativ tab 10.1 sells as well as I think it will at futureshop, bestbuy, and the Samsung stores. Once they hear that there is a phone version and it is by the makers of the Galaxy S3.

Heck, if Microsoft was smart, in one of their ads they should just let slip that the Ativ S is a superior version of the Galaxy S3 and basically the Galaxy S4 and watch the sales pour in. Samsung would be pissed but it would probably work. LOL
