Windows Central Question

When I go into text messaging, for example, the navigation bar covers up the options for "new text message" and the like. When I go to type a text message, the keyboard ends up covering my message field so I cannot see what I am typing. Is there a way to fix this?

... I had this problem on Windows 10 where it would keep trying to access the mobile data connection, even though I had it turned off.

I know this because I'm on a prepaid plan with no data and I kept getting text messages that I was trying to access mobile data. Now with Windows 8.1, I'm not getting those text messages. Presumably the mobile data connection works properly again instead of being broken as it is on Windows 10.

I take it back about the mobile data thing. I just had it happen on 8.1, too, about 2 feet from the wi-fi router, though it happens less than on 10.

Same here. I decided to downgrade to WP8.1 on my 635 (1GB) after encountering the nav bar scaling issue in W10M AU.

WP8.1 feels way more solid and stable compared to W10M. Sure, we're missing out on some new features but we're regaining others too.

I totally agree with you that WP8.1 is far more polished than W10m right now, but even though WP8.1 is more polished than W10m, and RS1 right now is buggy as heck, I'm going to keep my 635 on RS1. I rolled back to 8.1 once, and at first I liked how stuff just worked on it, but then I realized that I'm giving up on a lot of the enhancements that W10m brings: Edge displays webpages better, better MS Office apps, a Photo viewer that shows local and OneDrive photos simultaneously on one page, and it can play animated .GIFs, the ability to save offline maps onto the SD card, improved Action Center, one-handed mode, a better organized Settings screen, W10m-only apps, among many other improvements. So I went back to W10m.

But perhaps the biggest reason I decided to return my 635 to W10m is, even though W10m on the 635 sucks real bad right now, it's getting all the attention, new features, updates, and the problems will get fixed sooner or later. WP8.1, OTOH, while polished, is totally abandoned, and it'll lose Skype soon, which for me is kind of a big deal. I hate how buggy this phone is right now, but I'll take that over abandoned. Kinda crappy choices either way, but there it is.

I got sick of the 635 nav bar scaling issue on the latest public release of W10M, so I got onboard the insider program (fast ring) and upgraded to 14936.1000. Problem solved. Solid build too (at least going by THIS).

Please clarify... Did you revert back to WP8.1 (recently) and then successfully use Insider to get back up to Windows 10? I've been afraid to try that, because I was afraid my 512 MB device would be locked out.

Yes, that's what I did. It was around the middle of September. I used WDRT to roll back to 8.1. And then within a day of playing with it, I decided to go back to W10m, so I just downloaded the Windows Insider app and went back to 10586.107. After that, I took the phone off of Insider, and I got back to 14393. I have the 512MB version too.

What if people don't want to install pre-release software? This is indeed a solution for people knowing what they are doing. But whats with the people out there that simply want a working phone, they just see that MS simply screwed there phone and takes ages to deliver a solution - if they ever do.

Jump onto the Insider program and download the latest fast ring build 14936.1000. It solves the nav bar scaling issue and it's a completely solid and non-buggy build.

I don't know if you realize, but enlisting in the Insider Program implies giving up virtually all of my data to Microsoft. Especially for the Fast Ring. I shouldn't have to do that just to have my phone working like it was supposed to.

The most important thing I need my phone to do is to make/receive phone calls and send/receive text messages. Everything else is gravy.

And not being able to see the text message you're trying to type is a pretty basic thing that's broken, so right now Windows 10 Mobile fails for me.

I hadn't heard about WP8.1 losing Skype. That's too bad, but I'd rather see what I'm typing than have Skype, if it comes to that.

When/if there's a Windows 10 Mobile production release that actually works and is stable, I'll consider upgrading again, though.

It got a little bit better with the .321 update. The scaling bug has finally been resolved. Hallelujah. That was seriously one of the most unacceptable bugs to ever make it into a production release, but I'm really glad it's fixed now because, as you correctly pointed out, it made stuff like texting downright impossible.

Friend, could you explain us as did you solve that problem? I have already a month waiting for a solution on the part of Microsoft, I also have a 635 Lumia (512) and am just now restoring it to W8.1

Already managed to install in my Lumia 635 (512) 14.393.321 version and my phone goes wonders! the best version without a doubt, and the problem of scale already resolved this. I feel that my phone came to life very rejuvenated :winktongue::amaze::wink:

FYI: This is probably the wrong discussion category for your question, because we're talking abut the Lumia 635 here.

In any event, I think that may be deliberate. The navbar on the lock screen is supposed to provide you with one-touch access to the camera app without needing to actually unlock the phone - the Back button ought to turn into a camera button.

(But now that I try it, I notice that the camera button on the lock screen navbar doesn't actually do anything on my Lumia 635. Not a real problem for me, but I can see how it might be upsetting for some.)
