Lumia 720 Battery Life - Is this normal?

Its strange that reviews out there have given amazing ratings to 720's battery life.

I use whatsApp sparingly and 5 minutes of FB, I used the "messaging" the most. browse for like 20 min max....
Call for 2 hours whole day !!
Check linkedIn and twitter for 5 min. Quora for 5 mins !!
Camera for like 5-10 minutes (not everyday though) !!

I get just 9 hours of Battery with 16 hours of last charge !! :shocked:

And the phone is 5 days OLD only !!

It is the whatsapp and FB app thats causing all the problem man! Try uninstalling these and then restart you phone (press and hold volume down key and power key) then check it for yourself for a day or two, your battery life will improve for sure.

Have you updated the Facebook app? At least remove them from the background task or worst, uninstall them.

make sure all background tasks are disabled to maximize battery life. i get 2-3 days before charging again

even i am facing the same issues, when i use whatsapp for continously 5 min the discharge battery is round about10% , it hardly last for 4-5 hrs if we use wifi , music n apps , disaapointed with this

I use Wi-fi for about 3-4 hours for downloading apps , music and games. Whatsapp is installed , most of the background tasks are blocked , call duration is about 1.5-2 hour , listen to songs for about 2 hours and then play games for 20-30 minutes , my batter last for about 1day and 15 hours and it took around 2.5 hours to completely charge the battery.

I am facing similar problem with my Lumia 720. The battery doesnt even last 15-20 hours with mild to moderate usage.
Location,wifi,nfc,bluetooth are off. nothing is allowed to run in background. The calibration may not be exactly accurate but the battery actually is exausted in about that time.
Whats app is installed (not used much) , facebook is installed too but not allowed to run in background.




The phone is up to date. Also performed a soft reset (volume+power button) which didnt help.
Please suggest what could be the issue?

Please uninstall WhatsApp and see if that helps battery life. WhatsApp has been reported to drain the battery whether you use it much not.

The first time i charged it, the phone lasted for 1 day and about 10 hours. After that i could charge it only to about 45% and it lasted for 8 hours. Then again i charged it to 100% which took unbelievably long honestly (about 3 hours, used my old Lumia 510's charger), it lasted only for 7 hours! That too with no use of the phone at all. I didn't touch my phone for about 6 hours and yet the battery came down to 40% from 100% in 6 hours! This is very strange cuz I've used the phone with WhatsApp on 3g as well as music and the battery has lasted long. I haven't installed or updated any of the apps and yet this problem has arisen. My phone is 3 days old on top of all this! Please help. I didn't expect this from nokia.

I've got the following extra apps installed on my 720:
Rayman Jungle Run
Turbo Racing League
Shuffle Party
Facebook,
Adobe Reader
Shrink Storage
+ various stock and non-stock Nokia apps.
Wifi is ALWAYS on, network is set to 2G.

Using it for a a few hours every day. Right now it has been 3 days and 14 hours since I charged it. The battery is at 59 % and it believes that it will run out in 7 days and 9 hours.
Could the 3G really affect life time that much? I highly doubt it - if it lasted only a day, it would have a current consumption of 83 mA constantly. Not likely unless something keeps the processor alive and awake.

Just because the phone lasted a long time with WhatsApp running once, doesn't mean that WhatsApp is not the problem. It can misbehave and drain battery - possibly not all the time, but some of the time.

So please, do yourself a favour and uninstall WhatsApp and see if that helps battery life. WhatsApp has been reported to drain the battery whether you use it much not. If you're still getting battery problems you can reinstall WhatsApp and look elsewhere. If removing WhatsApp solves your issues, you can either leave it alone and wait until the developer solves the issues, or just install it and cope with the battery drain - your choice.

This is the funniest thing ever. My battery estimated time showed a whopping 11 days at 97%!

It sounds like you've tried the common battery troubleshooting stuff, so I suspect you might have a dud battery. Probably best to return it for a replacement. As I posted in your thread, I can easily get two full days with light-moderate use.

That's really up to Nokia Care or the service agent to decide (and would also be dependent on whether they can pinpoint a problem).

I have the same problem but without the heart appearing at 100%. Should I really need to drain the battery because I'm wondering how does it help.

Now I have strange problem. Battery works for a long time (about 5 days), but the recharge time is very long, because it takes more than seven hours. Normaly it takes 2 h. Used the original charger from the phone kit, never used with any other charger. Before discharge "Battery Meter" showed that it is 0%, but the phone worked for about 4 hours normally. Theoretically, the battery charger works correctly with E52 which loads as usual, about 1.5 hours. What could be the reason? The task in the background off.
