Camera OIS does not work on the first shot upon loading. You can test this by launching the camera and focusing on one point and lightly shake phone. Then compare that to the second shot. Then OIS doesn't smooth things out until the second shot. I have confirmed this on 3 different 830.

I can also confirm this with my 830 (RM-984_1037). Strange!

Notice that many of the pictures are blurry - thinking I was doing something wrong then I happen to be looking at the picture in the camera album and I swiped to another picture then swiped back and it was in focus for a second, then went blurry. Its like the picture is fine, it just displays it blurry, sometimes swiping away and back will focus the picture, others it doesn't seem to work on.

Welp, there goes by battery theory/experiment. After 2 days of no random reboots on my RM-985 after switching batteries, the phone froze using WhatsApp this morning (never froze using it before) and rebooted itself.

Do I return the device to B&H or try swapping out the SIM first? Don't want to wait too long to return it.

It's worth noting that I used the same SIM on my RM-984 and never once had a random reboot.

Probably not a sim problem.
Do you have a sd card installed ?
If so:
- Is Whatsapp installed on the SD card or the phone memory ?
- Do you have any apps that "run all the time" such as weather, pinned to the home screen, that are on the SD card instead of on the phone memory ?
- Do you have any apps that run in the background installed on the SD card instead of in the phone memory ?

Fred

Having the same problems with my RM-985. It reboots at least 2 times a day randomly. Sometimes whatsapp, sometimes internet explorer, sometimes other apps. There's no rhyme or reason.

I have no SD card.

I think no matter what application is open, my Lumia 830 restarts once a day regardless of which application is open. Just a coincidence. For me it is a software problem !?

Where/how do we contact Microsoft? Maybe they'll pay attention if enough of us complain, like they did with the L925 and L1020's freezing issues.

when i scroll through my notifications, the scrolling is stuttery or choppy. anyone get this?

I noticed this even on my 1520, but it only happens when notifications really pile up. I don't use the notification center (action center) much but I make sure to press "clear all" every now and then and experience no stuttering.

I had problems with random reboots once a day, but one week ago I removed battery and sim card and then put them back and no more reboots anymore.

Interesting ... I am NOT having the reboot problem. BUT - last year my iPhone 5 was freezing up frequently. Someone suggested I remove the SIM and reinsert it. I did, and did not have that problem any more. (Other problems inspired me to look at windows phone though!)

I tried the SIM/battery removal as well but that didn't fix it. B&H has received my returned RM-985. Just waiting on a replacement now.

Worth mentioning that I used the same battery/SIM on my RM-984 with no reboot issues.

CAPACITIVE BUTTONS ISSUE
Anyone else noticing lag on the capacitive buttons, especially the Cortana button? Sometimes it does not appear to respond at all. Never had a problem with this on my 920.

Yes! In fact I just opened this thread to ask this same question. I haven't really used the search button much and just thought I'd give it a try, and found it very nonresponsive.

Do you have a screen protector on your device? I just installed one and it seems to me the start and back buttons have become slightly more finicky since then--but only slightly. Nevertheless maybe that has something to do with it?

Same issue. Just got my wife the 830 and didn't test it without a screen protector but with it on the search button doesn't respond at all. The other two seem to work fine.

IV had the 830 for 3 weeks and the buttons worked fine. Yesterday I put s screen protector on and the Cortana button got flakey. It must be a sensitive button. It worked fine before the screen protector

Edit: I just removed the screen protector and all buttons work correctly, so that's the problem at least for me. Looks like Il go without a protector but gorilla glass is pretty solid so its not really needed

My 830 arrived yesterday morning, but the main camera doesn't work at all :( Starting any camera app usually just crashes back to Start screen. sometimes the MS Camera app stays running with black screen and you can select front cam. Returning for replacement. Pity.

Other than that ... it's great. Clear display, fast enough, light in hand. Wife has a 930 and I found it a bit too heavy and thick for comfort. Unlike her I don't carry a bag.
Same here :(

I noticed the same issue with the Search/Cortana button on my L830 with a Skinomi screen protector on it - sometimes would work (10% of the time). Took it back to AT&T, and they said it could be the screen protector brand. So, the rep peeled off the Skinomi, and we both confirmed that the search button works fine without the Skinomi. The rep then put on a Zagg Dry screen protector which is "guaranteed" to work with any phone (I had to pay for it). Same thing happened with the Zagg: search button worked sometimes. So, AT&T switched out my phone with a new one, put on another Zagg Dry, and same issue happened. Since it works fine without the protector, I decided to get a free Zagg replacement and install it myself since the AT&T did a crappy job (air bubbles and dust). Before I applied, I used a hole puncher to punch a hole in the protector where the Search button is located. Works much better now; however, I still do see issues of it not registering my touch at times. I would say it works 80-90% of the time now. Sometimes going back to the home screen via Windows or Back button and then hitting Search resolves the issue. I have talked with others who have the phone, and they have noticed the same issue even without screen protectors. Windows and Back buttons work perfectly fine for me with the protector on. Hopefully, this is just a firmware fix that is in the works, but it does seem like an issue affecting a lot of phones. The only good thing that came out of my experience is now have screen protector replacement for 2 lifetimes - one from Skinomi and one from Zagg. :eck:

Thanks eman, I'd say your analysis confirms the source of the problem (strange as it seems given that the other buttons generally aren't affected)!

On screen "features" category we have:

- The screen flickers at low light level.
- When set to automatic the screen wakes at medium level than adjust to low (if it is dark) resulting a short flashing image.
- When set to automatic the lowest level (in pitch black) is to high. I have to manually set to low. But then it flickers...
