Lumia 830 Bugs + Defects

Try different sockets and chargers from other devices.

Thanks Mohamed! In the process of doing that I discovered the USB wasn't pushed in firmly enough to the charger itself. So all's good now! We can move this question from the "830 bugs" thread over to the "End user error" thread instead now.

In my experience, the battery drops from 100% to 99% in just a couple of seconds of usage. The battery depletes very quickly until 90% or so and then stabilizes. Was travelling last night, so the network coverage was poor which I think caused my battery to fall about 20% in just 2 hours with minimal usage (this never happens!!). The wonderful thing was, I turned Battery Saver on and only 2% percent battery got depleted from then till morning!!

I've had the same experience with battery... The first few percent drops quickly, and then under 20% it drops fairly quickly as well (especially under 10). But in between it's quite good.

Is no one else experiencing random reboots?

How is the fact that I can't save maps to my SD card on my 830 not a bug?? How about you should read the title!

I really think you have a defective device. Try a soft reset yet? I can't even keep the volume on max most times because it's too loud. About as loud as my 1520 was, and that was the loudest (and clearest) loudspeaker of any phone I've ever owned.
Update: turns out the L830 is very sensitive to things covering the speakers. The film from the iShieldz screen protector was covering the mic (the cut-out for the mic wasn't taken off when applying). This caused the speaker to be really muffled. I experienced this same issue when using the flip cover (and not removing the plastic film). Haven't had this issue with the L1520 or L920. But, glad everything is working fantastic =D

You have to download Lumia storage check. Without this app you cannot save maps on SD no matter which Lumia you have.

Hello guys,

Does any of your 830's also have the headphone jack a little bit tilted / askew from the axis of the phone?
The micro usb port on mine is perfectly straight with the phone, but when i plug headphones into the audio jack, their connector is tilted a bit inwards on my 830 (like 2-3degrees). The sound quality is fine and the jack itself doesnt move at all.

I'm trying to find out, if this is completely normal, or a manufacturing defect..

Thank you for your responses!
Jan

Took a bunch of pictures showing my 3.5 jack ring and a cable plugged into it. It is indeed tilted a bit inwards like you say. I never would have noticed, it's probably like this on all 830s.

Yup...I noticed this too. Till I read your post and those of others reporting the same thing, I thought there was something wrong with my device. But as you said, after that initial drop - for me that is till about 95% - the battery expenditure stabilized and is pretty good actually. Of course, some apps (I am looking at you Flipboard, Baconit, and potentially Readit) drain quite a lot. And the problem with Flipboard is that I can't turn it off as a background process.

I can confirm the quick initial battery percentage drops, but not the random reboots. I am running the Dev. Preview though but my 830 has been rock solid!

I wonder if there's an issue with the battery or the SIM card, causing the random reboot roughly once a day. I put the battery from my RM-984 into my RM-985. It's been a day and so far no reboot. I'll give it a few days. If it reboots again, I'll try getting a new SIM. Thanks for the feedback.

Sounds good and please do post here your results. Also, any idea about why the battery drops from 100% so quickly but then stabilizes immediately thereafter?

Just because the display says that, it doesn't mean it's actually what's going on.
It may simply not be calibrated, kind of like the fuel gauge in many vehicles.
It's not 100% accurate.

I purchased a lumia 830 in India on launch day, after 15 days, phone slipped and whole screen is damaged gorilla glass 3 , obviously there were no covers available from day 1 so AI couldnt protect my device, now the irony is its been at the repair centre from last 12 days and they dont have any idea when the screen will be available in the market and what will be the price, everyone's excuse its a new phone so no cases and no information about screen. I asked lumia and lumia help on twitter account but it seems even they dont have answers. Now if MS itself does not know when spare parts will be available whats the use of launching phone if you cant support phone. Can anyone tell me where can I get the screen for lumia 830 or can get any answers from MS as they are ignorant and have worst customer service. Thats how they repay being loyal to WP by doing half hearted launches without proper support.

Thanks
Shreesh

Camera OIS does not work on the first shot upon loading. You can test this by launching the camera and focusing on one point and lightly shake phone. Then compare that to the second shot. Then OIS doesn't smooth things out until the second shot. I have confirmed this on 3 different 830.

I could not imagine this my stupid Lumia 820 not once rebooted except for some bad apps installation.how come this marvel reboots.By the way I believe lumia 830 give you at least 3 times more battery compared to the ugly looking Lumia 820 with pathetic screen resolution 480*800.

I've bought Nokia Lumia 830 by mobileshop.eu month ago. After only one week my mobile phone starts to restart when I'm surfing on the internet or using whatsapp aplication. And after restarting, my battery fall down about 20%. I've tried soft reset and hard reset but the problem is still here. It happens about 3 times a day. I have warranty from mobileshop.eu and they directed me into unknown servis, but I dont trust them. I'm from Croatia and this is a bit strange to me. Does anyone had the problem like this and how to solve it? Please help!

Download Nokia software recovery on your pc, plug in your phone and the program will tell you.
