Lithium batteries do NOT behave well when deeply discharged and it really shortens their useful life.
For longest life (capacity wise) keep them topped as much as possible.

:)
Fred

Not so, deep discharge is helpful to all batteries including Lithium and no I'm not referring to the old nicad issues.

Backup issue. My 830 does not backup settings and aps. Gets 97% and then message "there was a problem backing up your settings. Try again later." Is this a OS issue?

Check on your OneDrive settings to see if there is a backup and what the date is. This happened on my 920 because I am going to be switching to the 830 once it ships. I thought I wasn't going to be able to have a back up before my new phone but it does back up even though it says there was an error. This needs fixed.

This was posted on the Microsoft Windows Phone Q&A site:
"Alltogether this is a backup service problem at MicroSoft due to a bug or backup server connection problem. Its up to them to fix it since it can happen to all Windows Phone installations on whatever mobile model."

Thron. The same happens on 735. I think its good because you can take pictures faster. If you don't like it you could remove photo from the notifications area. But to access the photo just taken the phone has to be unlocked.

Remove the photo from the notifications area? Can you elaborate, I'd definitely like to disable it.. Imagine leaving your phone unattended at work for a second, some goof walks by and snaps a photo of their junk... 😨

When the phone is in password lock mode, the camera is still fully functional.

Not if you check) prevent accidental camera launch when phone is locked in Settings > Applications > photos+camera. At least it does on my unbranded unlocked 830

What an odd thing to say, where do you work at a porn studio ? like that's gonna happen, you 'wish'

Just checked my settings, 'prevent accidental camera launch when phone is locked' was already checked.

I work with a bunch of immature adults.

Coming out of airplane mode, (wifi previously enabled & connected) makes no attempt to reconnect despite the wifi options stating to automatically connect to said network.

As reported by other posters, the glance screen sporadically works. Sometimes it takes 3-5 clicks before it works for me.

So my damn search button isn't working correctly. Just sitting here, machine gunning the thing and no search. Is this problem determined to be hardware or software? It works maybe 1 out of 20 presses.

you have a screen protector? Mine definitely does not work with a screen protector on. I already tried a few. They all render the search button unusable. It seems the touch area of the search button without a screen protector is already tighter than the other two. But I have no issues without the screen protector. There is a thread with similar problem on the back button. within that thread lots of people are also complaining about the search button. It maybe a bad batch of digitizers. I'd try to get it replaced.

ps. I've used a hole puncher to put a hole for the search button. Looks "interesting" but works fine now.

Hi all,

I recently made the jump from Lumia 820 to 830 and the scrolling is terrible compared to the L820.

On the home screen, when i have enough tiles so that u have to scroll at least once down. When scrolling down it is smooth (by scrolling down i mean moving finger up), but when swiping it back up (moving finger down) there is always a noticeable twitch/lag/frame-rate drop and it is bugging the sh*t out of me.
Then when u are changing things in menu's and there are drop-down menu's, for instance when selecting if you want 'touch' to be on High or normal, when the drop-down 'animation' happens it lags really really bad! And there are other app's and situations where u notice it (Facebook app runs faster but looks less smooth!) overall this kill's the enjoyment and experience i was previously having with a Windows Phone.

The 820 and its flowing way handling was a joy to behold and use, not so much on this (upgrade?) L830.
My previous phone convinced me that WP8.1 was the platform to be on, and i still believe this to be true, but this phone is not a device u want to sell in this state to win over new costumers. If this would have been my first WP8.1 phone i would have changed back to android after my contract allowed me to.
Now i made the Microsoft choice, and on the last Nokia ever to be built they butchered it

This leaves me with a few thought's and questions...I still think Microsoft can be important in the mobile world, but then they need to step it up and make sure that the OS run's smooth on all the devices they sell. This is needed to stay on par at least with Apple in my humble opinion.
I ran away from Android because of that exact problem, and i hate to see it happening on WP8 devices now!

I do have 1 question, could this just be the screen? or are there users here that can identify with this on other WP phones (from cheap to flagship)?
I don't think it is the CPU or GPU, but rather the screen!, my previous phone had lesser spec's but AMOLED screen and it was buttery smooth sailing all along, maybe this makes all the difference?

Thanks for reading the wall of text, any reply would be greatly appreciated

Greetings from Belgium

Found a vid on youtube where the reviewer compares the 830 to other Wp Phones.
At one point he shows what i am talking about.

He starts talking about it around the 5:30 mark

Yea, got a screen protector. If I can't use a screen protector, I don't want it. It shouldn't even be a problem. Pinch/zoom also not working. I hate it, but I returned the phone today. I should've just bought a 635, like I got my wife. There is no excuse for problems like this. There are exactly 3 decent Flagship quality Windows phones worth looking at (HTC One, 1520, 830) and 2 of them have deal breaker issues. 830 with its capacitive buttons and the 1520 with touch screen issues. I absolutely will not buy an Android phone and I don't want to move to iOS due to the iTunes requirement. Microsoft is doing everything they can to move me to an iPhone. The HTC doesn't interest me because it doesn't have sd card expansion.
