After owning my Lumia 830 (RM-985) for a couple of months I compiled a few cons and observations, was expecting it to be on par if not slightly better than my 1020/Ativ S but to date it hasn't proved so. Did a factory reset 12 days ago with not much in the way of improvements, faulty unit I don't know but definitely not alone as others are experiencing similar issues. All three of my Windows Phones are setup similarly in regards to apps, configuration and settings.

• Random freezing followed by a reboot while using apps, 7 reboots to date with no particular pattern other than app usage, have not encountered an idle reboot that I’m aware of.
• Capacitive buttons (“back” mostly) sometimes unresponsive, have iShieldz protector installed
• Screen a tad too sensitive at times (set on high), in normal mode “back” button not sensitive enough
• Occasional screen lag or jitteriness while scrolling or when returning to home screen
• Noticing “Resuming” is more prevalent on 830 compared to my 1020/Ativ S
• Lumia camera on par speed-wise with my 1020 yet was expecting it to be slightly better, using the MS camera makes it comparable to my Ativ S
• Camera physical button overly sensitive, somewhat better w/gel case on but still find myself constantly launching camera
• Battery slow to charge, takes about 2-2.5 longer than my 1020 or Ativ S
• Battery falls of rapidly from 100% charge by 5-8% within first 20-30min, seems to balances out after that
• Battery drain under medium to heavy usage is 1.5-2 times faster than that of my 1020/Ativ S
• Slow to shutdown, takes approx. 4-5 times longer compared to my other WPs, 1st 1020, 2nd Ativ S and lastly 830… Latter is the faster of the three on start-up but only by a smidgen

My phone also takes really long to startup or shut down. Annoyingly long. I though it was just me. The long boot/shut down time is especially annoying when the phone's bluetooth/wifi freeze up and you have to restart it for it to work again.

Out of curiosity, how long does your phone take to shut down/boot? Mine is fairly fast in general, maybe <30 seconds combined (don't have a timer nearby). Shutting down takes 7-8 seconds but once in a blue moon it takes double that for no apparent reason. *headscratch*

I don't use Bluetooth much.

I am close to a business here that uses only Lumia's. They recently went from 820's to 830's and approximately 100 out of 200 people using the Lumia 830 experience similar issues like random reboots, WiFi issues, losing connectivity to network at random intervals and other erratic and problematic behavior. It is clear there is a problem with the 830, a problem that's bigger than the sim card not being properly inserted.

With such a large number of devices having these serious problems it's clear Microsoft/Nokia/Microkia screwed up somewhere with the device, bigtime.

Okay, I tried it now and surprisingly it shut off in about 8 seconds but starting up again took 1 minute 20 seconds.

And it would be good from Microsoft to announce that they are aware of the problem and they are working on a fix, and if there's no chance solve it by update, then exchange all the faulty devices.

I have had a Lumia 830 for a few weeks now. I don't have any problems with the phone itself. I have been on iOS and android recently. My only past experience was a Samsung Focus.

I don't get freezing or reboots. Right now I am at 12 days 19 hours uptime. That's probably 50% of the time I have owned the phone. I did notice the few times I rebooted it that the boot up sequence was fast, maybe 1/4 to 1/3 my Galaxy S4.

I do see resuming periodically, but have no real sense on comparison. It feels snappy, smooth, and fast.

My only complaints would be app related. I got my phone the day Netflix updated their app, so I have never had working Netflix. The Camera is slow, slow to take pictures and slow to start up. Compared to my S4, it seems glacial to snap an impromptu pic.

I haven't been following the Windows Phone world very closely. Buying the Lumia 830 was almost impulsive. I wanted a Note 4, but it was too much. My wife wanted a FitBit, and I felt almost obligated to buy the last phone to carry the Nokia name. It's running denim already, and I have heard a lot about how much the camera will be faster after the denim update. I can't imagine a camera that is slower than what I have now. It takes great pics, just hard to capture a moment, its gone before the camera is up, nm focus and snap.

Any suggestions for that? I have tried the Microsoft camera instead of the Lumia camera, but didn't see a dramatic difference. All in all, not a lot to complain about.

The phone ships with the new update but not the new Camera. I managed to get it and I can guarantee it's a 1000 times faster. But it's not fully optimized yet so you will get an update soon. You can always use the Microsoft built-in cam for quick shots (you can even change the camera button to launch the Microsoft one) or use ProShot! I'm not sure if it's still free but you should check it out. As for Netflix, I did the update and now gotta wait.

I'm not able to upload images using the Tapatalk app from my phone. I choose the image and it goes to the upload page with the moving three dots and that's it! Nothing happens after it. Am I doin something wrong?

Camera 360 sight is the fast one. Like, REALLY fast. Brilliant app. The original Camera360 app isn't fast really.

However the quality is less than expected and the app layout is smart but does takes some getting used to! It's a full featured app though and can do pretty much anything you can think of. Once you work your way through the unusual workings of the app that is.

I use the camera phone only for snapshots sometimes (I'm a photographer and use a "real" camera for the "good" stuff :p ), anyway, IMHO, the camera 360 app gives much better color balance and much better looking pictures "right out of the box, with no fiddling" than either the Microsoft camera or the Nokia camera :)

Are all 830 back plates loose about the camera hump? I mean I can push and there is a little gap between the phone and the cover.

Most i've seen I wouldn't call loose really but there is some play around the camera, yes. The back plate is only attached on all the sides, but not anywhere in the middle, so you can push in the part around the camera slightly. Not too far though and the edge is still ever so slightly higher than the camera. Creating nice protection for when you place the device on the back.

The 925 had a similar thing. Just the way they chose to build it. I find it .. a little disturbing because it makes it feel like the quality is horrible.

The gap you describe, if it's anything else than a little play, maybe the cover isn't attached properly, which is a common issue, you really have to press all sides, corners and so on.

The cover is attached properly, it looks perfect. But I feel the gap when I push below the camera hump and it's just a little play like you said. It doesn't bother me, I just wanted to know. I use the flip cover and there's no gap.

I have noticed that in the bottom left hand region of my screen there's a white spot. On a gray background there's a white little spot on the display. On a white background it's whiter than the rest of the screen. Strange.

For those people getting random reboots - do you find that the phone doesn't automatically reconnect to Wi-Fi unless you open the Wi-Fi settings?

I found a bug when playing Candy Crush after a while no sound will be coming from the speaker. Then after half an hour later the phone goes back to normal ie sound is working again. Has anyone encounter this problem?

Guys, what is your hardware revision number? You who experience random reboots and also the lucky ones who don't. Mine is 1.0.0.0 RM-984
