I think most of this is due to the radio to be honest. Just sitting idle in town with good LTE my battery drains at 1/4 the rate of at home with only 1-2 bars of LTE. I think it is programmed to search too aggressively for the fastest internet connections. If the phone automatically selected 2 or 3g while not in use the battery would last so much longer. the reality is you don't need the fastest connection while not in use anyway since all you need is low bandwidth for notifications. MS should reprogram the phone to do high speed only when it is being used. Nokia should look for more efficient radios as my Verizon windows phone didn't do this bad on battery even with poor signal.

Just sent my six week old 920 in for repair due to very rapid battery loss and heat issues. Seemed to be fine for the first few weeks and then battery life started falling rapidly - more each day.

After I started having this issue I started looking in to this a bit more, seeing way to many people having similar problems - thinking I might have made a mistake purchasing this phone.

Since the device is relatively new, is it not possible to get a replacement? I had a creaking issue at the back of the polycarb body and sent it in for repair. The "repair" didn't last long and I ended up sending it back for a new one. Battery life for me has been good, easily lasting a day and even a bit longer sometimes. Battery discharge is about 2% an hour.

I'll see how the phone works when I get it back - Nokia's communication on their service could certainly be improved.

I will look at getting a replacement if the problem hasn't been fixed. Hope they don't just sending out a refurb instead of a new unit if a replacement becomes necessary.

Yeah best of luck mate. I think the phone is really good and one of the best devices I've owned. Such a shame you're having issues.

I had my 920 fully charged on the cable overnight. I've done two hrs of browsing on my phone, and i just got a battery critically low warning. Is this normal? My phone also gets extremely hot at the back above the camera too. I've had my phone for about 9 months and I'm noticing the battery performance decreasing more and more....2 hrs from a full charge is ridiculous :( I've turned off all other background tasks, no wifi or Bluetooth enabled....no other running apps... Anything i can do to fix this besides getting a new handset? Are any of the newer Nokias better with battery performance than the 920?

My battery has been draining a lot faster since GDR 3/Black. I've checked background tasks and everything else as per usual but it doesn't seem to help.

One odd thing I have noticed is that while the phone is charging, the indicator will show that it is fully charged. Once I pull it off the charger though i notice that the battery meter is showing slightly less than full charge. I have to plug it in or put it on the charging pad a second time to get it to charge fully.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Either wp8 or nokias batteries are at fault. Im on my 6th 920 and everyone has has insane battery issues . There is absolutely no reason why so many people should have these issues. My lgg2 with its 3000 mha battery is amazing. I now am back on.my 920 because I missed it and holy crap what a price of garbage this battery is. Everything is turned.off and I've been through all the usual stuff for battery life tweaks. Nokia and Microsoft should be held accountable for releasing a **** poor product. With low to medium usage I have to charge my phone by 12pm.

Got my 920 back a few days ago, hard to tell what the repair (if indeed they actually did anything) amounted to, no battery swap though. In any event things seem to be decent on the battery usage now, still had 35% left tonight at 9:30 PM after a normal days usage starting at 6:00 AM.

Not that I had a lot of apps prior, but I was cautious this time not to over-app the phone. Figured I didn't need five different weather apps, six different calendars, etc., ...

On a side note, my wife just picked up an Icon - she gets a couple of days regularly on a charge.

I updated to the developer preview of 8.1 a few days ago and my battery life was horrendous. I could never figure out why as battery sense was showing normal usage on all apps.

But by chance I had my phone completely die on me and after charging it the battery life has been as good or possibly better than before the update.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I updated to wp 8.1 too, using developer preview. Batt life seens more or less the same... But, now I know who is draining. Facebook app is the hungriest. Second place is for whatsapp. Even the new batt sense drain batt life, but not comparable to those two. Still in observation...

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Battery life for my 920 is pathetic. Whenever I play a game the phone gets red hot and the battery drain is shocking. Using Here Drive is also really bad and get the phone red hot.

I have had two of these phones, and I don't understand what the problem is.
My first 920, it was absolutely perfect on battery life. It would not, even with constant usage go completely flat. It would last around 2 days with constant use. After regrettably smashing the screen on that one, I got a replacement.

This one, it's a pain! It does not hold charge like my old one. It also, has a tenancy to take it's time whilst charging. But this one, using it like my old one - it will not last longer than half a day.
I think, personally - they need a better battery. Or, one which is capable of working correctly and consistent.

Here's something to try. This is for the sudden battery drain whilst not really using the phone, not this or that app being a heavy drain.
Does your phone battery drain and the phone get hot whilst traveling, moving around ? I suspect it has to do with the new Geofencing. Turning of location clears the issue.

I have since tried something else after seeing another post. I turned Location on but WiFi sense off. It fixed my sudden (1hr) battery drain issue !

After about 10 months with my L920, this is what I get: 40~50 hours of battery life on regular usage.
By "regular usage" I mean two or three calls, e-mail/message checking, clock checking, alarm in the morning and a few minutes of news Reading each day.

My settings are:
- Bright: auto
- Glance: peek
- Location: on
- Wifi: on
- 3G: on
- Bluetooth: on only for one hour/day, while driving; off on the rest of the day
- Background tasks allowed: Bing News, Bing Weather, Whatsapp and Viber
- Email: auto receive as soon as possible for 2 accounts (GMail and corporate Exchange)
- Accounts synched and activated: Facebook, Twitter, Xbox LIVE, Google

During this time with my phone I've learned a few tricks aswell. They include things like never letting the phone discharge completely, disabling background tasks of recent installed apps, rebooting the phone after each new app/upgrade is installed and soft reset only if necessary and when the phone is plugged and 100% charged.
PS: I didn't upgrade to 8.1. Still on 8.0 GDR3.

I traded in my Lumia 925 for a refurbished (2 months old) Lumia 920 (couldn't make do with 16Gb memory). I have been having peculiar issues with the battery

1. When the battery completely dies when I connect it to the charger (1.5mA), it takes 15 minutes for the phone to at least power on. My 925 took 3-4 mins max
2. After the phone turns on, leaving it alone for 1 hour, the battery only charges up to 20%. It takes around 3.5 hours for the phone to reach 95% and it takes forever to get up to 100%. I have tried a lot of times, but apart from let it charge overnight, have never been able to reach 100%. This is on a 1.5A charger (AC-50). The 1A one which came with the phone sucks even more.
3. The battery doesn't last more than half a day (Maybe it is because I am using it too much, not sure).

Is this normal? I am comparing it to the similarly spec'ed 925, which I used for 8 months before this. If this is not normal, should I invest in a new battery?
