If you're in a poor cell area that will eat up battery. I have awesome battery life but when I go out to in in laws cell reception sucks and with in hours my phone is dead. Not sure what can be done about that.

This does affect the battery. But, in my case, I've been on airplane mode and still face the drain. Once the phone starts becoming warm, it all goes downhill from there. :/

Here's my solution, which combines from others' opinion across many forums.
Firstly, I turn every setting on (wifi, cellular, location...) except airplane mode. Then I open app one by one, let it access the location data if asked, and press back to quit the app one bye one. After that, I also uninstall Skype, which many consider as the main battery killer. Then, I turn the airplane mode on and make a normal restart (hold the power button to turn it off, then power it on again). When the phone is completely restarted, I turn the airplane mode off. Everything seems to be good after that. The battery life is improved very much, and the overheat problem is reduced.

Give this a go and I think you would be very surprised how your 920 battery improved. One more thing about the Skype, I decided to make a fairly annoyed way by reinstalling it when I need a video call, then uninstall it right after that.

Thanks and please post your result after try it.

There are quite a few sites out there that tell you what to do to increase battery life. The two major ones for me were:
1) GPS - if the GPS is on, it will drain your battery quickly. You can prevent this by turning off background tasks for any apps that use GPS
2) My phone has a camera button that is slightly higher than the rest of the buttons (half pressed is focus). My case kept the button slightly depressed, which drained my battery quickly. I had to modify me case by cutting out a space for the camera button.
After fixing these two, my battery life is close to 2 days

Lumia 920 battery - Always Hot, Always Draining. Always Charging,..

My 920 is always hot, it drains to zero charge within eight to ten hours, sometimes less, it takes up to six hours to recharge, it seems to be recharging while working against an enormous battery drain.
It is very hot while recharging so much so that I have keep the phone on a ceramic dish in case of fire. All this is without ANY use, it is just on standby, IF I use a feature like the Camera the drain is even worse. My Nokia 920 is barely battery operated, it must be connected to a charger while I drive, when at home and while I sleep, it is basically a wired powered phone that has to to be plugged in, with a long term battery back up, like a super long lasting, (4 to 10 Hrs.), UPS system on a home computer. As I write this it is recharging from 24% discharge caused by being unplugged for about 6 hours.

I do like the way it works, the Camera is great, it's the always hot, always draining battery issue that is limiting its usefulness.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

The battery is very strange on my phone. Some days I can get through an entire day (~16-18 hours) with still some charge left by the time I go to sleep. Other days it will drain in about 8 hours without doing anything out of the ordinary on my phone.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I will tell my story about my apparently schitzophrenic 920 and its crazy battery life. Thursday (july 4th) I unplugged my phone in the morning after having charged it all night. I went into the living room and set the phone down. Five hours later I hear the beep telling me that the battery is critically low. I had not been using the phone at all and I did verify that it was fully charged when I unplugged it. So I plug the phone into a usb port and let it slowly charge. I didn't unplug it until I went to bed that evening and decided that since it was freshly charged that I didn't need to plug it in as is my usual habit. The next morning it was dead and had turned itself off. I grumble and fuss at it and plug it in again. By brunch I would guess I took it off the charger (fully charged again). This would be friday late morningish.

Fast forward more than 2 days and it is sunday evening. The phone was showing it having been off the charger for 2 days and 9 hours and still had 56% battery left. At one point as I was periodically checking the charge level it told me that it had an estimated 11 days (!!) worth of charge left! So yea, this phone is strange when it comes to battery life. I suspect that there is a rogue app that was causing it, but I don't know which one. I didn't use the phone much other than a text or two and maybe a phone call in that time.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I've had my phone 4 days now. I walk around home depot all day with 1-4 bars of signal. I a few apps running in the background like weather, instance, swapchat, battery, ESPN hub, and wpcentral. I have the location turned on but that's it. My phone have been off the charger for 2 hours and I have done a little texting, and a small amount if twitter and Facebook. Any ideas as to why it is dying so quickly? My old phone, Samsung focus Flash with 1500m/ah would last me the whole day doing the same stuff. I would charge it with 30%+ battery every night and now my 920 has worse battery life. If anyone has an idea, let me know so I can extend my battery life. I don't have time to charge is during the day because I'm always on my feet moving and not near an outlet. Thanks guys

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Use the phone for a week or two. The battery backup will improve after few charging cycles. Its very common with all the new Lumia 920s nothing to worry.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Again I'm having another good day with the battery. I am at about 13 hours on since the last charge with some light texting, whatsapp, internet browsing, wp central app, espn app and some other things. The battery is still showing about 55%.

I have turned off most background tasks aside from Amazing Weather.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Some times my phone lasts 36 hours, others 12-16 hours....it goes on a tantrum for the oddest reasons. Overall im ok with it nowadays, its inconsistent but mostly dependable.

Well count me as one of the many with this finicky software. Seems to me that any app will hang up the CPU, making it warm and thus draining the battery. Take this pic for instance, my phone like everybody else's probably heats up from the same location on the upper right corner right where this black chip is which i'm assuming is the processor.

What our phones need is a major update to fix this issue so when an app is closed, it's closed. No running in the background or making cpu go bonkers.

So in reading some of the posts here, I've done the following and it seems to have fixed my extremely fast battery drain. Give this a shot. Other than turning off most Background apps, open up Nokia Here+Drive to Settings, and disable Location. Disable Connection while you're at it. Then, let your phone battery run down until it's completely dead and shuts itself off. Now charge it up all the way uninterrupted. This fixed my issue. Give it a shot, and please let me know if this worked for you as well. Good luck!

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Some days the battery is great. Others, it'll be dead within hours after charging. If problems persist, I might just get a 928 lol.

I did this before you posted actually and now I get 1.5 days of use. I'm a very heavy user. I use my phone at least every 30 minutes. Typically 1-4 phone calls a day that ate 2-15 minutes, over 350 texts a day, constantly checking my 4 emails, wpcentral, Facebook, twitter, tumblr, instance, and swapchat. Depending on my signal, I get 1 day (8AM-11PM) or a day and a half (8AM-noon the next day). I am very happy with the outcome of letting the phone die and charge completely. Do this twice after first getting the phone along with wait about a week and the battery will be amazing. At 25% I still have another estimated 10 hours of battery (depending on usage of course).

I've noticed that browsing the internet with IE makes my phone super hot after a while and when i'm done I will notice my battery has run down quite a bit.
