I will say this, it is an intriguing situation from the perspective of corporate communication styles. Microsoft/Nokia have essentially washed their hands in communicating that they signed off on the bits and have provided them to the carrier. Apparently the only way Microsoft feels comfortable breaking radio silence is through mostly non-specific tweets indicating that additional device support is imminent. Nokia is seemingly only comfortable voicing encouragement, e.g. "Please stay tuned." Which leaves the presumed gatekeeper, Verizon Wireless. From VZW's perspective, I see multiple possibilities (as well as more than one in combination):
1. Testing of these handsets are at the back of the priority scale due to sell-through, iPhone 6 launch...etc. (presumption)
2. The existence of an 8.1 + Cyan exclusivity period for the One M8. (who knows)
3. Cyan device testing is happening right now. (presumption)
4. Denim device testing is happening right now. (wouldn't square with Verizon's historical behavior)
5. No device testing is happening right now. (hard to fathom)
Regardless of the combination of possibilities, Verizon's culture is apparently to say nothing...at all. Even when updates have come in the past, it seems we typically learn from a community member obsessively refreshing the device support page and finding a new PDF for the release.
It is of course Verizon's choice to not be transparent - more than likely because somebody committed something once out of turn, the business environment changed, the something wasn't delivered, and they vowed never to do it again at some high level in the corporation. So, it is their choice, but among the many reasons why a company like Comcast has become so "hated" is a lack of transparency. Verizon seems comfortable with this attribute as part of their public perception as well. Oh well.
Patiently waiting for an update to my Icon - because I believe in WP, not Verizon.
