[Official] Initial thoughts on Developer Preview of WP8.1

Re: Initial thoughts on Developer Preview of WP8.1

Store is down in WP8 as well as WP8.1 so please don't panic and start resetting your regions! It is heck down for some WP7.8 folks too!

That's relief! Thanks for letting us know! Ps Wrote with word flow keyboard, will need some getting used to!

Re: Initial thoughts on Developer Preview of WP8.1

Three things that got worse with 8.1:
- the comma disappeared!!! So annoying, now I have to press the &123 button every time I want to set one!
I'm guessing that you have more than one language set in your phone, so the keyboard is using that key to change language? My English-only phone still has the same keyboard layout it always had.

I think that depends on how many keyboards you have installed. I had the comma as long as I had only one keyboard.

- music app got even worse, don't get me started.
- delete button on keyboard doesn't register correctly, it lags.

Honestly, I hope these things get changed in the final version or I'll be going nuts.

What I like:
- quick settings & the whole notification center thing

Overall, I'm actually disappointed

Oh, I also like the smiley suggestions ;-)

How could the music app have gotten worse? Now, you can actually edit playlists and select the order you want them to play, as well as adding or removing a specific song to it, which you couldn't on previous versons..

About the lagging keyboard, just wait some hours for it to get stable, you just installed a recent version, it's normal for it to lag while ''recognizing'' the system, mine was just like this, now, few hours past the update, everything fast as a bullet, and working like a charm =)

+810, my keyboard shows up just fine with the comma and I absolutely love word flow!! Not to mention the really cool emoji/icons that show up when you put in stuff like "family", "play" etc.

Re: Initial thoughts on Developer Preview of WP8.1

I have some issues.
There's no Cortnan on my phone (even at US settings)
I can't connect to the store...

Re: Initial thoughts on Developer Preview of WP8.1

The music app seems to be a little more jagged as far as the smoothness goes, but the functionality they have added is well worth the difference. Plus the sound volume control has become much more convenient.

I wish I had known this before resetting my phone again.

I'm loving the update! My 925 is fast or even more as it did before, but with all new functions! the best ones for me:

-notification centre, it's beatiful and works as it should.

-Music app FINALLY allows you to create/edit playlists, add or remove a specific song.

-Picture on the background! I found one that worked like a charm for my phone and hey! it's pretty cool.

-Wi-fi icon showing the strenght of the signal.

-New battery saver

-New lockscreen looks more clean and beatiful

-animations are faster, cleary improvements made on multitasking...

-New stock camera app is wonderful, faster than nokia camera and you can choose to change fast the settings you use the most! but it still need tweaks on post processament algorithms, nothing has changed about that, guess it will be only on cyan update (nokia's 8.1)

Things I dislike about the update:

-They removed the ''pre photos'' at photos hub, you'll be directed directly to albums/photos.

-lack of turn on/off cellular data via action centre (notification centre).

Besides that, everything as it should and yes, it's a rocking update =)

That's interesting. Has anyone noticed any differences between the stock camera app and Nokia camera?

What camera app are you all now using?

I've previously used the Nokia camera as the default. Going to try the default for a while now and see how it compares.

Re: Initial thoughts on Developer Preview of WP8.1

Anyone know where background application menu/setting has gone? It used to have its own menu in settings but i cant find it anymore

I like some of the features of the Nokia camera app, but find it a bit confusing/time consuming to change to different modes etc.

I'm hoping the stock camera app will be easier to use.

Re: Initial thoughts on Developer Preview of WP8.1

I like it so far, but I have a few annoyances.

So many things have been rearranged, and I especially do not like the new layout/organization of the music app.
In addition, at the end of each song, the play plays a very short snippet of the song that just finished before continuing on. Very annoying.

Re: Initial thoughts on Developer Preview of WP8.1

Does anyone know where the new native podcast app is? And lock screen app developed by Rudy that Belfiore showed during build?
