Can anybody explain to me how dantekai14 can have 140 infraction points (none of which are expired) and not be banned?

He's always been a problem child, and as far as I can tell he should be on holiday right now.

I believe the 3 day ban is gone. I just gave him 50 points for disruptive posting, so he's gone until 8 July 2014.

For a long time I felt TGP was behaving, but as of late I'm less certain if an infraction for trolling isn't in order. This post is a good example of what I'd infract.

Why? Well, TGP no longer owns a WP device. I can't recall him having anything positive to say about WP in a very long time. Most of his posts seem to serve no other purpose than to tell everyone else that what they like is crap. So what purpose do such posts serve other than to rile up other members? I'm having trouble seeing it. Considering that his statements in this particular post are also flat our wrong (WP would have 0% market share if they were true), I'm really tempted to hand out some points. On the other hand, that feels like stifeling free speech, which is the only thing I hate more than having to tolerate a troll.

The question is how is the WPC community best served?

Opinions?

I'd say he's trolling here, based on his first paragraph. But I'm going to reply and see what he says in response.

If he responds in a trolling manner to my post, I'd say give him an infraction.

Gosh darn it jiminy cricket, that reply looks fine to me. :smile: We'll leave it and that, and instead just say he's one to look out for.

Ebuka Allison seems to be taking an interest of trolling Microsoft for it's perceived lack of interest for the Windows Phone platform.

Laura closed down his previous thread, but he just turned around and create a new, slightly different thread. Typical trolling behaviour of making a contentious point and then rebutting all responses.

There is such a fine line between criticizing and trolling. I can see embittered WP owners or past owners actually criticizing out of frustration, but at some point it just becomes embittered posting. TGP has never struck me as a "troll", but I have noticed a little more negative feedback from him, and never really connected it until now. That truly makes me grateful for this thread.

Now, Sir William Wiener strikes me as the type that enjoys a good argument. I have felt for a while he may be on WPC JUST to start fights. I engaged him on the same thread that a5ent listed for the TPG post, and by the third or fourth time I defended the sales of the WP devices, he was down to calling me a fan and a cheerleader. I see him doing things very similar on the Evleaks thread about the Lumia Android. I am fine with disagreements- it increases traffic and makes people think. But I am not sure I trust this Wiener dog any farther then I can throw my pooch to not move to insults or personal shots. And she is a heavy, bulky pooch, so that is not very far.

Considering sending him a very polite PM, encouraging him to post away just to tone down any name-calling, no matter how intellegent he makes it sound.

i did not do PP ban, since they weren't registered on other sites, and if they do join other sites and not troll, I'd have no problem with that.

Yep. I think that is the hardest thing about being a mod. You almost need a sixth sense to determine on which side of that line any given post lies.

Aperture mentioned Ebuka Allison. He certainly is very negative, but I think his negativity is very different from TGP's.

When Ebuka posts negatively, it is usually about something that he finds bothersome based on his usage of his device. Every WP issue he has seems to personally offend him, but from what I've seen so far, all his gripes can be traced back to the recent calendar bug, Skype and XBM. Although he gets overly emotional and is obviously a 'glass half empty' type of person, he's not completely wrong about those issues either (although restarting threads that a mod closed is certainly inappropriate, but that is a different issue).

When TGP posts he does so in a very detached way. It's never emotional. It's never about a specific problem he has with a WP device. It's usually a blanket statement that seems to have no purpose other than telling everyone else why WP is a poor choice compared to Android. I just can't imagine why a person would choose to spend their free time doing that, unless they enjoy trolling.

I'm trying to use that difference to help determine if a person is trolling or not:

• Complaining about a problem with a personally owned device = normal
• Continuously posting negatively, without that negativity being directly rooted in a personal experience with WP = trolling (I think)

Don't know if this is true, or how often it might useful as a tool. Just putting it out there for your consideration.

I say he's still trolling, he knows that we're onto him and will do whatever it takes to avoid the ban hammer. That being said I think he should still get points for that post.

TBH I suspect that too. I think he knows exactly what he's doing and trying to go as far as he possibly can without getting smacked. You certainly have my blessing, but I'll leave that up to you and Laura.

The hit and run trolling\trashing doesn't do much damage.
It's the negative thread pushing that I find bothersome.

I caught a comment in one of the downer threads a while back saying something to the effect of:
"I came here from another forum after tiring of all the negative posting"
The comment below that was "I seldom come here anymore because of the negativity"

The "Poor old WP\Microsoft" threads are doing damage and setting a very bad tone lately.

And here in lies the biggest problem. I will say this- when new devices are coming out, posters are a lot more excited and threads are a ton more positive. The near lack of "fun" news items since the release of the developers preview of WP 8.1 has started to show. All we are getting are bland news (some lesser known apps or ones that have been on iOS and Android being released, some firmware updates, ECT), and percieved bad news (not sure if you heard, but there is a rumor about an Android Lumia :wink . As a result, the negative postings are coming out of the woodwork.

Until some WP Device excitement revs up, we need to be a tad more positive for our community and more aware of the people with no lives who like picking fights.

I recently banned somatta. The account was made specifically to troll on WPC and AC. The IP used by this guy were 5.104.224.42 and 4.34.200.253, both of which are TOR exit nodes.

Considering his posts are similarly aggressive, I think there is a chance that this is the same guy that impersonated Dave Blake a while back.
