Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!
So small whinge.
As you know my wife and I like to cook. My wife is a very good cook and I do my best to help.
In the last week we went out to a local restaurant with French neighbors for the first time. When I say local restaurant I mean regional.
What a lot of people may not not know about French food is that it's very regional. Like Italian and pretty much every European country.
Anyway, we had a cabbage soup as part of the lunch. May not sound like much but it was nice and my wife who was brought up on Finnish cuisine likes cabbage a lot.
Anyway, we decided to make a French cabbage soup. Did a search and found a recipe, from the USA... (Forgot to search in French). It's 'Soupe de chou" if you're interested.
Two things annoyed me about this recipe.
1. They put 'Swiss cheese' in the soup. Problem one... It's a French soup... Two there's no such thing as Swiss cheese. What people call Swiss cheese is a type of Emmental cheese, which can be found throughout Europe.
2. They finished by saying to have it with Italian bread, (not sure which Italian bread)....why not have it with a French baguette????!
It's an irritating thing in North America to generalise European food. Maybe it's my time here but i find it confusing that in 2018, with the internet and a foody movement that we're still generalising. Sad really.
Anyway, end of whinge... I know, my life is fairly simple these days...
