Not bad.

Wow! That's awesome.

Any feelings on Google buying Fitbit?
Here's the thing. We just don't know.

Google has been known to buy and spin off things. Google has been known to buy and sell things. Google has been known to kill projects while seeking innovation - even the ones that were very solid. Google has also said "we still believe in Android Wear" - with this ghost of a SD429, I mean Wear 3300, chip in the works.

Will Fibit be a separate thing? Will there be better Android integration? Will Fitbit just play into the sport/cheaper segment with Wear OS being the smartwatch version?

There are plenty of questions because while Fitbit as a brand still has some weight, they've been shopping themselves for quite some time now. With Apple so deeply entrenched with the carriers *COUGH*Sprint*COUGH*, the iWatch was pushed as the best iPhone companion. Once they went more fitness, it made it harder for others to tie into the Apple market as only that watch works the closest with iPhone.

Guess we will find out soon enough.

I liked Android Wear because of the built in voice commands. The one thing I like with the new Pixels are the onboard recorder app. If the new wear chip supports onboard recording, that would be huge to make the watches more useful. While talking to a watch seems odd, I can think off situations we're talking to the watch is more convenient than the phone.

You have valid points here.

I liked that Fitbit was separate from Google and Apple (so it was kinda neutral) but still very respected as a brand. It was a brand that if you don't wear a Apple Watch, it's a known brand. Fitbit is known, I hope that doesn't vanish.

Well, it's Alphabet that bought Fitbit, so we will see what happens.

I would be interested in a smart watch that isn't a fitness tracker and looks nice enough to wear when I'm not at the gym. That's why Fitbit never interested me, since it's too sporty. I'm also uninterested in Apple Watch, since I'm an Android user, not an iPhone user. I hope Google introduces something new that isn't too sporty. However, I might look into Samsung smart watches.

So yesterday we went to Paris. Weather wasn't the greatest.

We went to a nice vegan restaurant and then to Musse D'Orsay.

It was very busy in Paris because it's a long weekend and school holidays. Holidays here are a bit different than what I had in Canada.

Anyway, on the way there we had our first encounter tackling the Arc de Triomphe roundabout.

Thankfully for us it wasn't too busy so no big deal but to give you an idea of this places notoriety it has 12 roads leading to it. It has no road markings so cars just sort of go where they want. This, I should point it out, is not uncommon in Paris.

It's a no fault insurance area. Some insurance companies give you the option of not having insurance for this particular roundabout.

On a quiet day it's fine but even then you run into some interesting situations.

Anyway, here's some pics.DSC_0111-01.jpgDSC_0112-01.jpg

It depends what size watch you want. Also depends on how you dress up the watch too. If you like heft on your wrist, you're looking at a

Galaxy Watch 46mm (takes 22mm straps)
Watch active 2 (large)
Fossil Q Explorist (Gen 3 or 5 as Gen 4 had some issues with the back of the watch)

If you want smaller (20mm)

Galaxy Watch active 2 (small)
Galaxy Watch active (super small but does take standard straps pretty well)
Galaxy Watch 42mm
Skagen Falster (1 or 2)
Fossil Sport (likely black)
Fossil Q Venture
Galaxy Gear Sport

I wouldn't put the S3 series here before they're old (but still well supported). The gear sport is still a bit of a stretch, but at the right price it can take a beating and has a little heft while looking small.

To be honest, the only smartwatches I've bought brand new have been the LG G Watch and the Sony Smartwatch 3 (both for $200 at time of purchase). The last new one I bought overall was the Gear Sport for the gf.

Everything else has been mint - Swappa and Amazon, really. Only because these things can be overpriced for what they can do right now. I like adding in the fall detection and ECG type features as it's stuff like that which makes sense.

In all my watches, I like what Fossil is doing from a looks perspective. I like what Samsung has done. Apple has refined their product nicely. And fitbit was onto a few ideas as well.

If I were buying a smart match, I'd still get two: whatever Skagen is doing and a Samsung Active 2 (large). I have to confirm with the Active 2 because I do like the rotating bezel. I think Samsung may have found a nice substitute there with a digital bezel for weight saving.
