Very interesting takes on a big screen design surrounding 6.4". All have excellent build quality. All have very nice screens. All have pretty good cameras. All have wireless charging. All are glass sandwiches. View attachment 142065
Besides 99, who else recognized everything here? If you could keep one, which would you choose?

I know my answer...

I did because they are all different. I know the brands but not the particular models (aside from second from right, of course lol). If I could, I would go with the one that has good battery and a good camera, which is more than one here, I know. My answer still stands for the best middle ground.

Take a guess as what you see...even if you don't know the exact model. All have good cameras. All actually have decent battery life.

You really are still ducking it like Warren.

Yup, thot protection. At first, I thought it was 'thought' protection, but it didn't make sense after a minute or two of thinking. Then I saw the comments.

Also, man has the most genuine reactions to phones I've seen. Man's a legend.
The long time you tubers I'm aware of - Mkbhd, GeekyRanjit, Flossy etc. do deserve the respect because they were doing YouTube before YouTube was cool. It's just now we really have choice in content.

I don't care what Google says, I'd rather have the option for a true black mode to go along with the light and dark modes in the OS.

Pixels are always so polarizing. SMH.

So I liked the Pixel 2 overall. The in hand feel of the 2XL I didn't like. The screen was better than what people thought though. What I didn't like about the Pixel was the battery (historical) and the storage, as I had a 64GB model. I liked the feel of the Pixel 3 and the notch from the 3XL while SMH worthy, wasn't so bad. I liked the in hand feel of both the 4 and 4XL.

Adding a Pixel again brings back the love hate relationship. I like the camera performance, yet dislike the fact I only have access to auto mode (although it's very good). I like the monthly updates and being first, yet I dislike how stripped back the software is (it's not as bare as the Essential, which was great as it was easier to swap out Google services). I like the screen, yet dislike how big the notch is (it should have been smaller).

I can appreciate the size of the device, yet it doesn't have a large enough battery and the bezels all around could have been a little smaller to offer more screen real estate.

I think ever since the Pixel line has launched, I always liked the smaller model. Now that Google is moving into the mid-range, I think that looking back I wish Google had done a bit more in making their case for a premium push in pricing.

As an Android user, I always like the old school AOSP. There's a lot Google has done a nice job with over the course of Android. Still, because of the Apple like approach, there's more work to be done for a much customer like me to set the device up how I want. Google over the years has just by fled stuff I to their ROM I don't like, never used and would have preferred the option to fully uninstall vs merely disabling.

It was this as why I liked to root back in the day. I remember those Gapp less ROMs. Or how some of the Gapps packages were so slim you could get away with it (loved those Slim ROMs).

This is partly why I like some of the Chinese OEMs' ROMs. There is some useful stuff in the software that Huawei, Xioami, etc offer - especially if one wants to wean off Google services. As aways, their stuff too is fraught with stuff that's a pain in the *** as well. Even they are falling more under the Google push, if you see the differences between the Xioami Global vs Chinese ROMs for example...it's getting harder to drop some of the backed in Gapps I don't like in the Global ROM.

I'm not going sit here and state that LG's skin is better. What people use are a matter of preference. I will say the closest thing to what I've liked in a long time was the Essential ROM. It was in the vein of those slim ROMs. I'm merely in the minority here, so most won't care. Still, Google's version of Android and iOS these days are really starting to look and feel like each other - which is good for most people and not so much for outliers like me.

As much as I enjoy the size of the V35, I'm likely going to retire it. The camera isn't aging as well as I would want...and the battery isn't again as well either. I'm going to have to go a size up indeed. I still prefer to get a V50, as the battery on the V40 isn't going to cut it as a daily driver. Mostly likely once I get a V50, the V40 will go. The difference between both isn't as much as it seems...but the differences are enough at the right price. Typically, I would have gone for a V60, but that's a lot larger than what I want as a daily driver. As much I as respect LG's more streamlined approach, there are things about the V50 I find more appealing.

This was also why I found the battery on the G8 to be such a disappointment. I liked the secure biometrics, including hand ID. I like the size, which was similar to the G7. It was the most widely available device. As always, looks like LG didn't tweak the screen as best as possible between screen and battery. It is why making the jump up to a bigger screen for that extra battery makes more sense for me.

Sometimes when you hit on a good refurbished unit, it's a nice thing. I've hit 3/3 on the last ones I've picked up. It does save some $$$.

I'm interested in getting the new iPhone SE as the primary side business device. I'm also thinking of adding a new personal device. In using the Flex 14 so far, it's pretty much lived up to the reviews. I've kept it clean as I wasn't sure if I wanted to have it be a mixed device. Given what's happening from COVID-19, I want another device for personal use. It's weird as even though I have a few personal things on the machine, I just now feel comfortable using it for work solely.

As much as I'm not a fan of iOS these days, I found it more useful for what I do on the clock. I really want my own device to set things up how I see fit. Then I can pair it with the Mi 9, likely adding my own local management. Why all this effort? Telehealth has been thrust to the forefront and may likely be here to stay. It's been around for a while but once insurances and regulatory standards become even more ironclad, I want equipment that's separate that I can secure PHI independently. Plus, with Apple offering longer OS support, I can grab one and slowly ease into setting up my hustle and not worry about not getting software updates.

I wanted a Surface 3 laptop for the personal. The configuration I want similar to the Flex 14 is outrageously expensive. I'll pick something up in Xmas...either the Surface laptop 3 when the Surface 4 shows up, or likely a 2020 HP Envy 13t. The HP has the lead, as something smaller may be better for my personal use. Just doing the research now.

So quick update for everyone.
My company is going to build 1M face shields for our Frontline healthcare personnel. Our facility has signed up for 40K in April.
Next Tuesday I'm going to go to work and help build how ever many I can. My team members are all going to do this to show our support.

We are donating these face shields for free via a non-profit that will distribute these to the hospitals that need them the most.

Two of our facilities will also build a few thousand low cost ventilators as well.

I hope you all are staying safe and healthy.
That's awesome!

Not too much. I never got a chance to try that Jamaican restaurant, since they aren't doing takeaway.

My book club is having a Zoom meeting later this month, since we can't meet. That should be interesting.
Hope they will be around once things calm down again.

I'm kind of tired of Zoom right now. It's become the unofficial default meeting platform for work. I'm glad your book club is using it to stay connected.

I hope so too.

I can understand why you're tired of Zoom, since you have to use it so much for work.
