Agree. Thankfully we don't all live like (a lot of) Americans. We'd need another three planets...
I hope, but know that it might be useless, that some good comes out of this lockdown. People realising what they need and want aren't the same thing.
Doubt it.
Just FYI, trains were packed this morning (news). Traffic is definitely busier (can hear it). I haven't looked at the streets but I'd guess more people outside even though the weather was crap.
I can only speak for me and state that prior to the lock down I was already looking to streamline my own wants vs needs. COVID-19 just accelerated those efforts. With how fickle the economy is right now, I'm just trying to clear up finances and have coined stashed to the side. Some people questioned why I did certain things at the start of the pandemic - I didn't and now that those smaller accounts are settled it makes me sleep easier I can concentrate on other things.
It's going to be hard for lots of folk because of how capitalism has conditioned people. I'll speak for me and am more selective of my purchasing power. There have been plenty of self improvement things I want to get done that now with COVID-19, I'm more resolute in sticking with my time line. Life is too fleeting not to make what you do with your $$$ more meaningful.
Even if things were opened up here, I still would do the same. My approach also applies to food as well - get just enough of what I need, with a few dollars extra for sale items I know I will use. When you were raised in a culture where getting the most out of your resources is essential, those lessons don't leave you so easily. This overindulgence crap will continue to screw us all.
Maybe my solo efforts won't change much, but I'll sleep better at night know I'm trying to be as responsible as possible.
