My wife has the 950 and the screen is larger and brighter than I anticipated (which is a good thing), it's thinner than her previous 1020 and feels so much lighter. However, I would have to go with the 950 XL for just one reason: the larger screen, because it is easier on the eyes and makes a perfect device to fit between my desktop PC and laptop.

I personally would go for the 950 because:
(1) smaller body = better one handed usability
(2) I'm on the minority side here, but I think it looks better than the 950 XL
(3) I really wanna give Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile a shot.
(3) A slightly less powerful processor doesn't bother me.
