A lot of the items in this list are pretty stupid. No G+ support? GTFO. That's like saying "why is there no myspace support!?!?"

And Alternate Webbrowser.. you have a good alternate web browser on iOS? I mean, when I left my iPhone4, it was all safari. And what real alternative browser is there that isn't a skinned version until Firefox came out for Android.

No File Explorer is a bit like asking why I can't open up a root prompt or a dosprompt. I could care less. I can get to the filesystem if I connect to a PC, but really, if a big selling point of a phone is that you can bring up a command prompt, then the phone sucks... you're talking about a very small number of people who should ever care about any such thing.

There are Nokia exclusive apps. Oddly, on my wife's S3, she has Samsung exclusive apps. And Apple is full of exclusive apps. Point?

Manual IP address? Are you kidding me? What lame person does this.. if you need a static, consistent address inside of a network you set your DHCP to have an address pre-mapped to the MACID. If you hard wire an IP address, then wifi functionality is worthless everywhere except a home network. Sorry, but this is a REALLY lame option.

"No possibility of other OS".. look, if you think the phone OS sucks, why would you buy the phone? Find lots of people buying iPhones just to install ICS on them? No? Because you can't do it.
Grab a Samsung S3 and root it to install something else and find a whole lot of the basic functions go to s*(&..

Seriously, most of the things on this list are ridiculous.. I mean, totally ridiculous.

If you tap to zoom, the text formats itself to fit the screen without you having to pan sideways to read the entire text, but rather conforms to the width of your zoomed in screen.

What is text reflow?

Webpages that don't have forced boundaries on text (think some forums, etc.) and allowing it to re-wrap the words to fit the screen rather then scroll side to side. Note, this doesn't apply to any webpage that uses columns or boundaries to setup specific widths.

yes that's actually the Google suggested way to hold an Android phone, considering that's where the user's head is too.

The thing about no alternate browser is a lie. There are alternate browsers you can download from the store.

My personal favorite is UC Browser. It let's you download videos into the phone for offline viewing. But even better, once downloaded, it allows you to upload the videos to SkyDrive. Basically, they're yours forever.

So if you're into porn, this is definitely the alternate browser for you as you can build a sizable collection. All accessible from SkyDrive at any time. 

...But it's worth noting that UC Browser is still IE based, so it won't load pages any better than IE will. All those pages with the drop down menus and features that don't work properly in IE won't work in UC Browser or SurfCube or any of the "alternative" browsers we have now. We need real alternatives, as in NOT based on IE. Give me a good version of Firefox or Opera for Windows Phone and that would check off a major item on my wish list. I suspect a lot of other people feel the same way.

  • no USB storage
  • no file explorer
    • True
    • No app that I know of, but you can plug it in an managed your files through a computer.
  • can't manually manage music / files on the device via your computer
    • As said before, WP8 uses MTP. You can managed through drag and drop or other 3rd party tools.
  • no USB host
    • This point has been rephrased a few times on this list.
Guys please help me understand this USB storage for wp8, I'm still not clear about it.
I'm still using Win XP :unhappysweat: so would a WP8 drag and drop works for me? As in when I connect WP8 phone to my dino pc, will it detect the phone as a removable storage and I could just drag and drop files from phone to pc and vice versa? Do I need to use a 3rd party app? If so what app?

Thank you in advance.

I tried this yesterday on a SP3 XP machine just to test.. and it saw my Nokia 920 as removable storage. So, I'd say yes.

I use XP as well and drag and drop works well, a nit of advise though, don't transfer music this way, its a nightmare, use the windows media player instead, works much better especially to create play lists

I've just been using iTunes :eck:

Some people make it sound like MediaMonkey is great, but I have yet to try it.

Things Android does not have:
Live Tiles
Offline GPS maps (HUGE when travelling)
Internet Explorer (hey if we are making stupid lists of crap, why not)
People hub with integrated twitter, facebook, and linkedin
SMS/Facebook Integrated Chat
Microsoft Office
Xbox live games

  • In Android you can't silence Calendar Notifications without silencing all other notifications. If you're phone doesn't have a "Silent" ringtone (like htc phones), well tough.
    • This was a huge annoyance for me since I keep up to date w/ work on my phone but I didn't want constant beeps about meetings
  • In the Android Music player, you can't see what is next in your random queue.
    • in WP, when you play a random list, you can skip ahead, but not in Android. So now I have to just hit "next" constantly because I don't know the next song because neither does the phone!
  • In the Android Email Client, you can't zoom out to see the entire emails. It's like it defaults to a zoomed in view and you're stuck scrolling side to side AND up and down.

Those were my biggest gripes I could think of. Annoying because I used my phone mainly as a music player and for work emails. Ok, I'll shut up about Android now.

Pretty accurate list, it's just a matter of how important those things are to you.

Live Tiles are just limited widgets with a consistent design language. Many third party ones don't work. My ESPN tile is still showing me the second quarter of an NFL game from sunday. They aren't even very good at notifications, most are no better than the red numbers iphone icons get. They are not enough for a notification center, I've had multiple instances where my phone went off, but none of my tiles had notifications.

Well that's what you'd expect from carriers. I never thought I'd see Microsoft and Apple actually using celebrities in their ads. How tacky.

Then you must not have seen the commercials with Zooey Deschanel, Samuel Jackson and John Malcovich for siri. Or is it a case of selective memory?

Other things that my Windows Phone won't do:

1) Prepare a healthy, filling breakfast that is ready for me when the alarm goes off at 5:45 each morning;
2) Wash, dry, iron, and fold my laundry;
3) Make me the perfect cup of tea;
4) Ensure that my toiletries are restocked adequately with my preferred brands at the lowest possible prices.

Totally unacceptable!

So, as predicted, I wasn't able to hold off. When the boys get home from school, we'll start building the new sets. I tried, I really did!

My Windows Phone 8 doesn't make me look like an iSheep sitting at a trendy bookstore or coffee store with every other person there with the exact same phone...
