To purchase one outright no. You cannot.
The 950/xl phones have been out of production for quite a while, and that is Microsoft's choice. So correct, you cannot buy one at the store, but if you purchased one before they ceased selling them in the store along with a Microsoft Complete service plan, then you would get service at the store. At least that is how it is in my area. I can only go into the store where it was purchased if there is an issue with it since it is covered under that plan.

So you fail to acknowledge that Apple doesn't work this way, hence their big advantage in the consumer market.

When I looked at their website yesterday I got this :https://forums.windowscentral.com/e...cid%3DPhone_cat_Row3_AllPhones&token=Q2o_LXBF

It looks like they still sell phones. If they are out of production, do you believe these phones are just phones that are still laying around? Either be in the phone business, or get out.

If you took a Lumia 950 to a store, even *with* the service plan, what would the replacement device be?
The Galaxy S8? Because thats the only phone they sell in retail stores now.

They have replacements units on hand only for that reason. Again, at least at my local store.

950's are getting better since they went out, they should at least keep them alive few months after release of surface phone, so we can switch without getting hurt. More than software support, important is also to have physical stores everywhere. Better sooner than xiaomi or the others. Who will show-off product with market front products from samsung. Apple got stores everywhere, also support is long, they should learn at least if they have from whom.

One random dude from Microsoft (LeBlanc?) already stated that they do no longer guarantee any support for current or future devices if they are not pleased with them (maybe security updates excluded).

As much as I like windows phone is just not happening any more. Retrench after retrench I given up on them. If might not be real telling but I noticed the other day when updating my set aside 640xl in the app store in any windows platform apps have maybe a hundred or even a a few hundred reviews. In Android many have thousands and thousands. Be it I don't use many apps but I have noticed on Android the few I use very updated often.

I have used windows phones since CE days, then went with Symbian/Android. When the Lumia 630 came out, I went back to windows mobile and have been using a 950XL since it came out

Recently I was tempted to try the much-hyped OnePlus 3T, running Androud 7.1.1, and after 10 days of use, it's back in the box and my 950XL is back in my pocket.

Seriously, I somehow can't use any other phone OS again. I also got an Android flagship (can't remember the name, some Chinese brand with a snapdragon 820, 1440p screen, all metal etc.) just to 'try' what the other side is like. Couldn't use it for a day. Now it's gathering dust in a box somewhere. Back to my 950XL, which I rotate with my trusty unicorn 1520 and occasional Idol4S. I'm going with Windows Mobile till the bitter end! :)

The support and situation from Microsoft since wp7 was meh. As a consumer and fan of windows for phones I say get another phone android or iOS. I don't think they will succeed after what they did to consumers. I feel bad for panos Panay when he reveals the surface phone because a lot of people dont trust Microsoft anymore. It's the sad truth. I think that even with uwp a lot of uwp apps won't work on current devices in the future without an update.

I hope they support it! Even if they offer new ARM phones...support for at least a short while - show that they are reliable and have some interest in keeping customers...

I love my 950XL. As long as the new flagship is ready and available. I don't mind selling the 950XL on eBay for $50 and dropping $600 for a new Windows flagship. I don't really care what OS it will have, as long as I have continuum, and the OS is Microsoft.

I'm sticking with this phone (950xl), for at least another year, maybe even 2, even if it is not supported. I bought it at very very good value and it runs well for my needs. $400 Australian including the continuum dock. A bargain if you ask me.

It's not slow at all....only dodgy apps such as the latest Facebook messenger struggle, and that is down to the developers not os or hardware!

You are nuts to sell at that price, let me know if you do, ill buy it.

I really don't know, but remember -- Nadella said that MS is committed to mobile. That said, it appears that he has done everything in his power to kill the platform. Since they don't have many options right now, either they support through 18 or they will need to release Surface phone and allow time for people to upgrade -- I would say 6 months. Let's watch and see how honest his statement about commitment actually is.

After a whole year seeing how my fav apps were falling down from my 950XL with no MS response, I got sick last month of this situation and jumped to a Huawei Mate 9. Nothing to regret. I recovered all my lost apps in 15'. Goodbye forever, WP.

Yup, once Spotify, eBay and Tapatalk left the platform, I back benched Windows phones and made an iPhone 6s+ my daily driver.
Even as media players....Groove Music sucks hard.

Thanks again 😊 for everyone's opinion! It's much appreciated!!

Anyhow I'm a PC 💻 Gamer! "300+ games" Steam, Origin, Uplay, GOG.net, Battle.net, list goes on and on... So I'm not dropping my custom build Rigs with Win10 Creators PC's....but I will have to intergrade all my info 🛈 and data from my MS Lumia 950 XL "Win10M Creators" into Google Pixel 2 XXL "Android 8" at yearend somehow??.....never jumped platforms before, like I said...was with Microsoft Mobile phones for 11 years!!! I have everything intergraded into MS....Movies and Music 🎶......Note One, Outlook, Outlook Calendar, OneDrive, Cortana etc etc....

On the up coming Android 8 should be able to put all those MS Apps back on and have a functioning "NOT MS" very unfortunately working Phone again??....I don't expect to Love 💘 Android 8 coming from Win10M Creators! ....right now "Win10 Creators" & "Win10M Creators" are the best OS's on the planet! (2017) My opinion..... Quite frankly it Scares the crap outta me to jump platforms.

I'm not getting rid of my Lumia 950 XL but will use it a a second backup phone or music 🎶 player or something....it's still a great device if it's still working in 2018.

I hope 🤞 you all enjoy you're next 7 months+ with our Lumia 950 XL as much as I loved it... and I would of bought me the Lumia 960 XL and gave the 950 XL to my wife if it wasn't cancelled last year! Was so hoping for the Surface Phone Pro too come this year but there's nothing on the road map for 2017??

It's a very sad 😢 thing for me to say.....2018 Win10M RIP....2018 RIP?

Blackberry went Android 6, Nokia went Android 7, Microsoft goto Android 8? ....I mean could there be a MS Android 8 devices? Or a software overlay something like Samsung TouchWiz UI but MS UI for Android 8 to download?? Would be interesting, not saying a replacement of Win10M OS but for us people that been with them forever...little something to keep Win fans little happier even on another platform ....like next generation Android 8??.....I'm still gonna use all MS apps and MS services on the upcoming Android 8 OS.....guess I find out in 6 months.

Google project "Taimen" aka Pixel 2 XXL made by (HTC) or (LG). ....Google just gave LG $880 Million dollars for there new displays.

Android 8 "Android O" OS
6" 3K or 4K HDR10 OLED display (LG)
Corning Gorilla Glass 5
No bezel
Snapdragon 836
6GB of RAM
128GB UFS v2
MicroSDXC UHS I
3 camera 📷 (Dual 16MP back & 8MP front)
IP68 certified
Li-Ion 3800 mAh battery

All rumored of course 😊 ....but this is what the leaks are saying 😉.....very good hardware just wish 🌠 this upcoming device (Google Taimen) was the Surface Phone Pro.
