No news on when Nokia will start rolling out GDR3 for the Lumias? (I'd rather not void my warranty by installing the preview but it sure is tempting!).

It's looking like early next year when it should start rolling out OTA. January/February is most likely at the moment.

Re: GDR3 Features & Information

So I got GDR3 on my Verizon HTC8X and eagerly went to the new phone storage page in settings hoping it would let me deal with my 2GB or so of "other". Well it's very nice but it doesn't answer the question. The bar says 12.09 GB used, 2.47 GB free. That leaves 1.44 GB unaccounted for. I know I can't expect to get a full 16.0 GB, there's got to be some overhead for the file system, but a gig and a half??

It seems like there's still an "other" category but they just hide it now...

16GB is generally not 16GB.It's actually closer to 14.9GB (due to the decimal/binary conversion). So the phone is reporting 14.56GB total storage...which is actually close to what it should show.

That's what my phone shows for the total space on my Lumia 1520 that is the 16GB model as well. So there's no missing storage at all...just the normal 16,000,000,000/1024/1024/1024 process.

I have had the 1520 for a week now and love it for the most part. It has GDR3 Black OS. As someone who has never had a WP before this one i must say the features really were lacking prior to the software that came on my 1520. Even with the 1520 i find it lacking a few things that may be a deal breaker and i may return it.

- Notification center : I like the glance screen, but i would rather the phone wake up and show me the message for a few seconds. Some may say they don't want this, but what about breaking news notifications? Do we want to have to unlock our phone for for everything seemingly to see what it is? , or just be able to look at it the screen and deciding whether or not it's important enough to unlock the phone now or later. This is not really a bother for me right now as there are seemingly no apps for any of the local news stations within like 500 miles of the Boston area still. Other core news apps need official releases also, Bing news and CNN are really it.

- Toggles for Wifi/Bluetooth from the lock screen, sort of like the control center for iOS.

Welcome rurbam. No, you won't need to factory reset your phone, the update will arrive OTA from your carrier/network and all data and apps etc will remain as they are.

Well the beginning of next year is one month away... and I don't even have GDR3 yet on my 520. Of course I realize we don't get all of the features due to hardware, but omg this is starting to look "a lot" like the reason I left Android 5 years ago... updates that took forever to come and when they were promised, they simply vaporized lol. This small update is only adding more features the other big boys all ready have out there. If we don't have GDR3 on the 520 on AT&T by now and they're releasing another larger version update at the beginning of next year I'm guessing we really are not going to get either. Does anyone know if MS is still in charge of pushing updates (ala Apple) and not letting the carriers fragment WP like they have Android (which I loathe). I'm beginning to miss my iphone since it has all of this stuff all ready and more. My inclination due to uncertainty is to rev up the old iphone (2 years old and still beyond my WP8) and send that stupid Surface back when UPS brings it to my door tomorrow. I really love the start screen on my WP but it's not worth not being able to close an app or stop my screen from rotating continuously either...

Welcome Jon. If you wish to, like many of us have done so, you can already install GDR3 (also called 'Update 3') onto your phone right now. The only real downside to this (for some on contract for example), is that Microsoft say that as this update is not specifically issued from your carrier, it may void your carriers warranty. Please see this thread for more details on this.

You will get the updates, but there is no specific time when you will receive them. The date when Microsoft finishes an update, is not the date you will receive it OTA to your phone. It's up to the carriers to release that update after testing it. Thankfully with GDR3, Microsoft enabled us to manually install it if we wish to, as I mentioned above. Your first update will be GDR3/Nokia Black Update, then (likely a few months later), you should receive the large 8.1 update.

I'm not sure this should put you off owning a Surface, which is lovely device. The Surface is a completely different product, that can do a lot more than a phone can. I'd at least give the Surface a try :)

First of all, none of the Nokia phones have received Update 3 yet so the 520 is not an exception. Secondly Update 3+ Black is due for OTA release early 2014 which has already been announced several times so patiently waiting is your only option, if not then search how to get Update 3 Preview on WP8 and do an OTA.

Hello,
Just want to post 2 bugs that I experienced after GDR3.
The first one is really annoying and bad - every time phone goes idle for 15mins or more WiFi stop working so I have to turn off on again so it work again.
The second one is bad too - call conference not working anymore, the option is there but just don't work.
Any one with same issues?

for WiFi, go to Wifi > settings > advanced. Select the box for- allow WiFi to run under lockscreen
