How many of you LOVE the 830

I LOVE my 830. The only thing I hated about it was when I got it, proper Lumia Denim was not available (got a country variant - Philippines) at the time, but when I finally got the proper Denim update, it was more awesome.

Also, I managed to get 8.1 Update 2 via the Windows Insider app. After getting Update 2, I did a hard reset, and didn't reinstall the Windows Insider app. It's more awesome with it.

Does this still work just got this device after my 1520 got injured, I really miss my camera options. If so I will do this right away.

I'm in the same position as you. My upgrade from my L720 is due and I'm in two minds which one is going to replace it; the 830 or 640.
Like you I really like the glance screen, the battery life and the screen size of the 720.
Wireless charging is a must which rules out the 640 and besides that I am not particularly fond of glossy finishes.
So, are you keeping your 720 or debating other options?
I'm keeping the 720, certainly for the immediate future. I don't know how well it will run WP10 so that could ultimately force a change of device. Don't want a screen size much bigger than this though...decisions 😐

Bluetooth is terrible with of all things, the Microsoft Band (mine is AT&T model without Denim so not sure if that is the problem). Capacitive buttons are not very sensitive so you cannot use a screen protector or the search button doesn't work.

Other than that it's an excellent phone and I think it looks and feels amazing. Perhaps feels a little slow at times but not often.

Hoping Bluetooth is fixed via updates.

I like the L830, but I don't love it. For me, it was the flagship phone, since I'm with ATT. Some feature I really like, being able to expand the memory, great camera. However the audio crackles sometimes, the full Denim hasn't been made available, and likely won't ever be. It's a very good phone, but I'm hoping for a newer flagship with the release of W10, something in the same basic form factor, but with higher quality audio. The basic features that are must haves for me are wireless charging, glance, etc.

I kinda like my 830, but cant say that im super happy with it.

I like the size, the way it looks, battery life, and I really like the wireless charging - even the performance is good enough, not great, but good enough. But, I am on my 3rd device in 6 months, the previous 2 had issues with vibration, the speaker and radios. It randomly reboots far too often, the sound is occasionally muffled, bluetooth is inconsistent, Cortana doesnt work properly (all settings are correct, it just doesnt work the way its supposed to) and the front camera is pretty bad.

Do I regret my purchase? Not really, but I did expect it to be a little better considering it was labelled as 'an affordable flagship' which it is not, a flagship, nor was it all that inexpensive.

I love my L830. I hate myself for buying it through ATT. Big mistake I will not make again. ATT doesn't give a crap whether their customers have the latest possible OS or FW on their phones (if it is anything other than an iDevice), while at the same time both MS and ATT keep telling people about its Lumia Camera 5 capabilities when in fact it is crippled because of a missing fw update.

But, I still think it is a wonderful phone, solid build, aesthetically pleasing design. I like the fact I can change the back, the sdcard extension and battery life.

I completely agree with every word of this - could have been written by me. I am NOT happy with AT&T but am married to them - corporate account. But I love the phone, my only complaints are that at time it could have a faster processor - sometimes web pages take a long time to render - and the GPS is not as dependable as it was on my iPhone - tends to drop, especially when hand held as opposed to in a vehicle.

EDIT the next day - I didn't mention the problem with the back button, since I don't think it's the manufacturer's responsibility to anticipate how the phone will work when "altered". I used a simple hole punch to make holes in a screen protector over the back button and the Cortana button, and have had no problems since then.

I never post here, just lurk really. But I just bought an 830 after having tried Windows on a 635.

I love my 830! It's fast, and I personally find the build quality to be great. It looks good, feels good, and I really enjoy the bright green back. My camera works well even without the most recent update. Plus I have gone through about six screen protectors and have never experienced issues with the capacitive buttons.

I also see complaints about glance not being bright enough. I do not have that problem. A lot of people actually think my screen is on when my glance picture and the time pops up.

I don't use a lot of apps, but still I'm highly aware that WP lacks a selection of apps and the quality of the ones that we do have aren't always great.
I also love that the phone easily interacts with my Surface.

It's a great phone and for what I paid, I was expecting a lot less. Sure it has some minor issues, but I think that every phone will, regardless of who makes it.

Thanks for reading my first post! I really enjoy this forum, and of course I love my 830. I just wish that Lumias were more widely available in the U.S.

I love my Lumia 830, especially compared to the P.I.T.A. that was my Lumia 925--funny, as I bought both phones unlocked.

It's not perfect, but the screen looks excellent, the construction and feel is great, the touch sensitivity works great, and the MicroSD slot is something that literally every phone needs. Response times are excellent. The Wifi dropping is a little annoying, but BT works flawlessly, and it doesn't have the unfixable playback glitching that all 8.0 phones upgraded to 8.1 have.

I love my 830. Only complaint I've ever had on it is the back button doesn't register sometimes. I had the 1520, but it was just too big.

since the 930 is WAY worse than the 1520, and the 1520 is WAY outdated now, idky anyone would look for a second at the 830

That is weird my back button was temperamental when I first got it but after a short bit no problems.

Just got my 830 on Friday. I don't need a flagship, but I wanted to address my 8x short comings . The screen was too small, not enough storage , No support from HTC, will it upgrade to win 10 ? A removable battery . Got everything upgraded and got a much better camera and build quality . The 830 also seems all around Slightly faster . So far I am glad I made the Change.

I had the Lumia Icon on Verizon and recently sold it. Some missing apps were killing the experience for me. Mobile banking apps in the U.S. in particular. And it was just a bit bulky/heavy. The 830 would just about be ideal if it had the apps I need.

Luckily we don't have here such a players like ATT, all phones from operator are unlocked (except iPhone) and gets all updates from manufacturer directly and no operator crapware is installed inside.

Replaced 920 with 830 and i am not regretting it. Bluetooth and internet-sharing works almost flawlessly on the 830 compared to 920. I use internet sharing 3-7 days a week when working. It is really rock steady and doesnt suck the life out of the battery at the same pace as the the 920. I know it has a beefier battery but taking that into consideration it still seems to outperform the 920. Love the microSD card slot. Use a 64Gb card and im basking in free space. No i don't have music on my phone, it is all on OneDrive.

I like the feel of my 830... aesthetic wise...especially compared to my gigantor 1520. But it think they (MS/Nokia/ATT) really flubbed this device IMHO.

Reasons:

1) Obvious - I'm on ATT, I'll probably NEVER get those promised Denim features that were announced with the phone. Sadly, I did not think of this when I retired my 1020 before getting the phone. ...and had assumed the 830 had the full Denim firmware already.

2) I have a 635 as well...the 830 and 635 are using the same chipset/SoC...it's pretty obvious that it is slower in speed (updates, app updates, app resume from tombstoning--RAM will also account for app resume speed states) compared to my 1520. For the price of the 830, I think it should've had a least a better/faster SoC than the S400. ...and possibly more memory.

3) This phone is retailed about ~150$ less than the current flagships -or prior flagships. How is that possible with this hardware? I bought my 1520 off contract for ~550$ when the 1520 launched. The 830 is still retailed off contract for ~400-450$ at the MS Store. - Please someone explain why the 830 costs this much for a 720p display, 1 GB of RAM, S400 SoC, 10 MP pureview camera, and 16 GB of on board storage? -Wireless charging?!? Lol jk.

Now don't get me wrong, it's a solid device and I like using it as my daily driver compared to my 1520...but still, these things made me question after using the phone for awhile.

830 has a great build quality, it is Nokia after all, and the camera is amazing. But it is definitely not for a power user.

The performance is just pathetic. The "Resuming" screen kills the experience at every corner. Each and every app will give you Resuming screen for 2 seconds atleast.

So, buying it at this point of time is not advisable, untill unless you are just going to use 5-10 apps.

I swapped from the 1020 to the 830 and gosh, I feel like I'm owning a real high-end Lumia for about 150-200? cheaper. The only missing feature is "Hey Cortana" but since it's not available in my country (France), I can say that I have nothing to eny to a 1520 or a 930. Except may be the camera. it still takes great shots tho.

To resume, I just looooooooove my 830 :-)
