How many of you LOVE the 830

Got the Black edition + SD 64GB, uncovered and no protection. With the wear and tear is looking like a military edition now, cool . It is not the fastest around but it does its job very well, changed my 620 in our BOYD policy to 830 and never looked back. Dropped few times and not a scratch, though as nails and battery for 2 day easy

Love hate relation here.

- Hate that is doesn't have smaller bezels around the top and bottom;
- Hate that the audio jack ring popped out while doing something as trivial as pulling out my headphone jack and it isn't covered by the warranty;
- Hate the capacitive buttons responsiveness;
- Hate the USB port at the top instead of the bottom;
- Hate the wi-fi bug that makes me restart the phone;
- Hate the Bluetooth bug that doesn't connect with my earpiece at the first time for a lot of the time;
- Hate the creakiness of the back cover on an otherwise very sturdy phone;

I love everything else. All in all it's a good device, but apart from the battery life, it doesn't beat my dear old 820.

I started my journey of wp from 800 -> 920 -> 830 and i would say that I love 830 the most.. "Cortana" not available in my region. But all other things are lovely about 830.. :excited:

I really like and enjoy my 830, but I don't love it.

Everything works as it should and I've never had an issue. But, being honest with myself, I wanted flagship performance and the 830, of course, doesn't do it. That said, I knew what I was getting, so I can't complain about the 830. If could have waited for the Windows 10 flagship(s), I would have, but needed a new phone, and the 930 wasn't available here in Canada (At least from sources I wanted to deal with).

And...I still have a "bad taste in my mouth" from "full" Denim and the 830. MS lost some of my trust with that mess and it did ruin the experience on the 830 for the first few months.

Anyway....

It's a love hate thing for me.

I like the design and build quality it's great for me, it's a very sturdy phone.

Specs and features suck though. The screen is garbage, capacitive buttons are constant problems, Bluetooth is terrible, the phone is really slow, etc.

For me though, it is the best option for a "new" Lumia until the flagships release.

Are there multiple hardware revisions? I do not get these problems.

The screen looks really great for a 720p screen. I have gotten compliments on it. And I have no problems with speed or anything of that nature. Occasionally an app may go to screen where it's resuming but that doesn't last long.

Either way I always get confused when people complain about it. Are you on Denim + the developer preview latest Os install?

I love this phone from a visual hardware perspective. People also complain about the back not being tightly sealed, I don't have that issue. So There must be different hardware versions, 1st generation versus 2nd.. etc.

Anyways, I honestly think it's a great phone that looks almost high end with the black back plate. I don't use it for much other than playing a few games, browsing the web, using a few apps for social and just daily apps like my Gym app etc.. Not sure what else you would use a phone for.

I'm sure it's a great phone, but I'd never buy one because of this puzzling situation in which 830s and 930s cost the same from so many places, especially eBay sellers when buying them outright. Right now, I'd be nervous to buy the 930 either given that we're so close to seeing new top-end phones.

Only registered to reply that I am totally in love with my 830.For me , it's the best Lumia in the market right now.And the price is no brainer.

The 830 is great, just that there isn't much other than the camera department that differentiates from the 730 and it is unbelievably expensive compared to 730/35 just for the improvements in camera. It is basically a disaster in terms of marketing and rightly so cause it doesn't have differentiating factor and the tag "affordable flagship" has completely shot off in the opposite direction.

So you're saying $239 is unbelievably expensive for such a great device? Nokia Lumia 830 Smartphone RM-984 (Unlocked, Black) #A00020755 - Expansys USA

Excellent phone. USB on top makes sense when you use it on its side as a satnav with charging lead plugged in.

Been on a 4 week overseas trip, took 830, ipad, DSLR and a map book. Next time will just take 830 - great camera especially for street photography, here maps use no data as satnav (as long as traffic turned off), screen big enough to use a browser (just), connects to wifi easily in coffee shops and the like, sends photos to onedrive as soon as connected, and fresh paint, coffee reader (ebooks) and fantasia paint/photo editor offer enough entertainment for long flights. Bluetooth perfect with my car for handsfree phone, but very unreliable playing music to my Nokia speaker - sometimes it works, sometimes it stops after one track, sometimes it wont start playing at all. The only weak point.

I do not love my L830, I just really like it. The only thing that stops me from loving it is IPS screen. Otherwise I have no complains. I replaced my older L820 with AMOLED screen. That screen is able produce real black. The IPS does not make real black. No matter how I played with settings. It is like comparing plasma TV with LCD... black color is different. IPS is actually LCD.. So, I bought unlocked orange RM-985 version. Immediately switched from ATT to Cricket and became a happy user. Phone came with Denim and I found plenty of improvements over Cyan. I can use Glance Background app again (it was recently banned and removed from the store), and I love glance feature especially when glance background is different from lock screen background (that's when GB app comes handy). The biggest difference comparing to L820 is outstanding call quality. I could not talk on L820 unless I used speakerphone or Bluetooth. Dimensions, design, feel are above my expectation. It is a very nice device and I really wish it will last for a long time. And btw.. L830 is a very last NOKIA phone.

I cannot say I love it, however I really like this phone. There is only one thing in L830 that makes me disappointed. It is IPS screen. I compare it with my retired L820 with AMOLED screed, and L820 screen wins. I am talking about black color. Perhaps because IPS is LCD it cannot produce true black. It is like comparing plasma TV and LCD TV. No matter how I adjusted setting I could not get bright white and absolutely black background. Now is the long list of usable pros.. Call quality would be #1 for me, because L820 was so bad to make calls that I had to use either speakerphone or Bluetooth so people would hear me. Denim firmware is perhaps #2. It is so much better than Cyan. It was preinstalled on my unlocked RM-985 L830. Denim has plenty of useful features. Grouping tiles is one of them. It is so much better than Folder app. No I can group anything, not just actual app tiles. Although Denim allows glance background (even in color) that background will match Lock screen. To my surprise Denim allowed me to download and install Glance Background app (formerly Nokia Glance Beta) . It is impossible on cyan because MSF banned it several months ago. GB app allows to display different glance background from lock screen. Other thing that please me are phone dimensions, feel, design ( I bought mine in orange with aluminum frame). Obviously Qi charge is always handy. Anyway I am pretty happy L830 user and I wish this phone will last very long time. And also... this is a very last Nokia phone.

I love my 830. I have had Android and the iPhone. Neither did I like as much as my Nokia 830. Shortly my Nokia 830, Surface 3 and my PC will all have one operating system. I think that also will be great.

Love my 830, just upgraded from my ancient 800 a month ago. I was torn between the 830 and the 635 (the only two my carrier offers) and am very happy I went with the 830. The camera is awesome.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a relatively slim case for the 830? I feel it needs a bit more grip on the sides.

I've been using it since my 920 died a few months ago. I bought it to use until the new flagship is released and I have to say I'm quite impressed with it. I have not yet put W10 on it yet. Running 8.1 with a 32gb SD card.

, but very unreliable playing music to my Nokia speaker - sometimes it works, sometimes it stops after one track, sometimes it wont start playing at all. The only weak point.

Just got 8.1 (2) update here - UK country variant. Bluetooth to my MD12 seems to be fixed :-)

I loved my 830. Went to the lumia 640xl recently and you can immediately tell the difference in build quality (I do not understand those complaining about the 830's build quality, although I rarely see that complaint). I got it for a good price however, so I can't say whether the value was worth it, although i absolutely agree the $450 USD asking price is way too high.

My Lumia 830 sucks. Touch screen freezes, Wifi doesn't connect, Bluetooth connection issues. I'm on AT&T, update sucks.
