Lumia 640 T-Mobile USA

I wish Microsoft wouldn't even announce these devices for certain markets until they're available from actual retailers.

Really getting weary of Microsoft's anti-consumer attitude.
As a Microsoft Mobile enthusiast I'm starting to have serious doubts.

MS is concentrating too much on replacing an unbroken OS rather than offering devices that fans are clambering for.

The 640's exist...just not for people in the US that want them.
We can only hope B&H, Newegg, E-Bay and Amazon get some out of market variants to sell in order to fill the gap for the US.

This slow release deal is such BS...

I saw on Reddit that it is coming to MetroPCS mid to late May.

So maybe it will launch on the 15th?

I saw that same post that came from a T-Mobile employee or something. They expected it the first or 2nd week of may, so I'm hoping next week.
Meanwhile, I'm gonna head to Target and buy a Lumia 521. They're apparently going out for $15 dollars. Gonna use one as a media player/windows 10 demo

User "EliteWolverine" ( windowscentral.com/users/elitewolverine ) seemed to indicate that he/she worked for T-Mobile and that TMo was still busy testing the Lumia 640 on their network.

Naturally, this person is guessing on the release date. I'm hoping it comes before June, but it's getting hard to wait... :)

Sigh. Well, I am broke right now so no biggie. Although it would have been nice to have an internet capable phone when my ISP was down this morning.

it really is getting annoying currently with the Lumia 640. You get NO information and cant buy it anywhere else, since the network is not supported by Lumias from other countries. Such an extreme bummer - and not cool at all.

Well, the Asus Zenfone 2 is supposed to be released in the United States on the 18th starting at $199. I really want to try a Windows phone, but I need a new phone (my LG Fuel is my in between phone and it's been in between long enough!) soon so the 640 XL better be available by then or else I'm sticking with Android. The Zenfone 2 is too good a deal to pass up.

I agree about them announcing products long before we can buy them. It's getting tiresome. This is Deja Vu for me. I remember waiting for what seemed like forever after the 521 was announced and almost gave up.

This became my first windows phone. I really liked that phone but it had some issues (nothing to do with it's great OS) such as barely acceptable battery life and a screen unusable outside (very sunny here). I have to admit that I ended up switching to my current Android LG Optimus F3 (which was the nearest comparable inexpensive android phone at the time) that has much better battery life and a more readable screen. I ended up doing this because I got fed up with T-Mobile not having a better low to midrange windows phone for the longest time. I just couldn't justify a couple of highend phones at several hundred dollars each. My wife also switched to Android.

We're taking a second look at a Windows Phone device now, since the Lumia 640 looks like it may fix my complaints about the 521. We want a better camera for one, and we liked the 521 camera better than our current Android phones. I am assuming this time the battery life should be much more acceptable. Is the screen readability going to be much better than the 521 in bright sunlight though?

I really want Microsoft to succeed and if it ever did finally take off, I might even consider a higher end phone.

So that's the trick. Each carrier does what it wants to do with Windows phones. European and Indian carriers test the Lumias pretty quickly and push them out to the market because they know they'll sell pretty well.

North America? Not so much. So the carriers here take their sweet time with the Windows Phones. Sure they'll get around to them at some point, but it definitely is a lower priority for them.

Did MS announce it a bit too early? Yeah, probably. But I think the hold up here is mostly the fault of the US carriers. What can ya do?

I know they require testing, but it takes 3 months? not to mention even before the phone was announced Tmobile should have had already been testing it.

Maybe we can buy 2 435's tape 'em together and call it the Lumia 870 dual SIM ... :)
Sorry trying to cheer meself up.

My 920 is on its way out, and I couldn't stand using my backup Moto G anymore, so I ordered a 640 from Expansys, got it today. Really happy with it so far. Glad I didn't get the XL, the 640 is just the right size for me. Using it with Cricket and working well so far.

Does the expansys unlocked RM-1113 version work well on T-mobile? As in full speed on LTE and HSPA+, roaming, etc.

If so, I might just stop waiting for T-mobile and just buy it there, simply because my 635 doesn't detect my SD card so I have no real space, and the 512MB or RAM does slow it down even though I convinced myself it was fine back when I bought it lol

and the 512MB of RAM does slow it down even though I convinced myself it was fine back when I bought it

And that's the best part. It WAS fine when you bought it. Remember when we were all using HDDs instead of SSDs? Same diff. (IMHO.)

And TBH, for the price, I was fine with the performance "hit" that the 512 MB had. But the double RAM will be a welcome change with the 640!! I don't think it will be here until June, and I want it sooner, so if the Expanss one works on Tmobile USA I will probably just dive in.

Seriously considering the Expansys USA deal also.
The price was down 10 dollars to $209 from $219...

I just know seconds after I'd buy this it will pop for a lower price...happens to me every time I fall.

Also there's another member reporting in my "L640 DS available on Expansys USA" thread saying he's having difficulty with the phone on T-Mobile.
The member purchased the RM-1113 from an E-Bay seller however.
