I think I'll end up buying the phone unlocked from expansy. Paying a little more for faster updates is worth it IMO. Especially with many now suggesting the T-mobile version will sell for close to $150 plus tax.

In the UK, the unlocked 640 has just gone up in price from ?119 to ?129. That's $200. Count yourselves lucky! :grin:

(and yes I know we pay 20% VAT whereas sales tax etc varies by state - this was just an illustration!)

Lumia 635 was $130 on release,so still same price range. Phone will be out around July,maybe.

Going to wait a couple of months before buying, the price always drops steadily.

I don't have enough posts to link it, but in a response to someone who asked when it will be available for T-Mobile, their official twitter said, "No release date yet, but we're excited!" on May 12.

It's making it hard to be optimistic if Cricket will get it before T-mo.

It looks legit! The problem is those cannot be immediately unlocked and used on T-Mobile (or regular AT&T).

Why wouldnt this work on ATT? Cricket = ATT. If I can use a locked ATT phone on Cricket I'm sure the opposite is true.

$109.92 would be a sweet price! I just wish it would be released sometime this week and in stores so I could walk over to one of the T-Mobiles near me and grab it!

Interesting.

So I looked at bhphotovideo.com and on a search for "lumia", I see that the 640 3.5G can be ordered now but it is considered a special order. As for the 4G LTE, the expected availability date is May 29, but you can preorder an unlocked one for 199.99! I guess we will see which one is available first, T-mo or B&H, lol.

I'm assuming the B&H model is the US variant, but it's difficult to tell without having a list of the variants for each country.

What I want to know is, what are the advantages to buying the phone unlocked instead of directly through Tmo? Will I get OS updates faster? Will Wi-Fi calling still work?

Dealt with B&H quite a few times.
Can't say enough good things about them as an on-line seller.

All I know is when ordering from them I have been getting items in 2 days from NY to California using included shipping.
Way better than the foot dragging+sales tax from Amazon or Newegg...
